St. Luke’s Hospice serves the Basildon and Thurrock local authority districts with a population in excess of 289,000.  This includes the centres of Billericay, Grays, Stanford-le-Hope, Wickford, Basildon and the surrounding districts.  We are situated on the A176, adjacent to Basildon Hospital.  We opened for Day Care in 1990 and In-patient Care the following year, 1991.
We are a registered Charity and no charge is made to patients or their families for any of the services provided.St. Luke’s commenced as a community project and is still sustained by the community we serve. Without the generosity of local businesses, clubs, organisations and individuals we could not continue to provide these quality and much-needed palliative care services in Basildon and Thurrock.
We provide specialist palliative care for patients whose disease has progressed beyond curative measures Although 95% of our patients require cancer care we also care for patients with other terminal illnesses (eg:Motor Neurone Disease, Muscular Dystrophy, HIV/Aids).
We have 8 In-patient beds in individual rooms
There are three principal reasons for admission:
                   Respite Care
                   Pain & Symptom Control
                   Final Care
Our Day-care unit can accommodate up to 50 patients a week.  In addition we provide a Sitting Service and a Carer’s Support Service as well as a Social Worker who provides support for families during the patient’s illness and after death.
