Wednesday, Mainstream and Plus Program ()

On Wednesday evenings you are welcome to come and join in the fun. Our callers, Cliff Anderton and Gene Turner are always happy to explore the entire Mainstream and Plus programs and to help dancers better understand the definitions of the calls. It helps to know the definitions of all the calls from Mainstream through Plus as we try to do a fair bit of "All Position Dancing" (APD).

On Pre-announced "Party Nights", we will dance at the program that our guests-of-honour are most comfortable (IE: Mainstream or Easy-level Plus). If the guests are experienced Mainstream dancers and express a desire to learn a particular Plus move, Cliff or Gene are more than happy to accommodate.

On occasion we have Pre-announced "Open Nights", where we invite non-dancers to come and try square dancing. Please Contact Cliff or Gene if you would be interested in attending on one of these evenings.

History of Harmony Squares:

Harmony Squares is a caller-run club, formed in October 1997 to provide Plus dancers in the Harrogate & York areas (of Yorkshire, England) an opportunity to dance a complete evening of the Plus Program from all positions (APD Plus). Cliff Anderton and Gene Turner are the callers who called the inaugural dance on 24 October 1997 at Tadcaster Sports Centre, Tadcaster, W. Yorkshire. This first dance was followed by successful dances every Friday night for several months.

Scheduling of the Tadcaster Sports Centre, and concerns about dancing on a carpeted dance floor, prompted us to look for another hall. After much searching, Clifford Village Hall came to the forefront as being available on a Wednesday evening. All other halls were booked throughout the week to local groups. The Harmony Squares Square Dance Club was relocated to Clifford Village Hall. Club night was changed from Friday to Wednesday.

In time, we became aware that Clifford Village Hall had become available on Friday evenings as well. Cliff and Gene welcomed the opportunity to offer Introductory (BASIC) Square Dance Lessons on Friday nights (in addition to the Wednesday evening Plus Program). After several successful "Square Dance Party Nights", introducing non-dancers to Square Dancing, we started our first Harmony Squares Class.

At this time we have consolidated the Friday Mainstream and lessons evening with the Wednesday evening Plus programme and have between four and six squares dancing alternating tips of Lessons, Mainstream and Plus programme; from 7:30 pm through 10:00 pm nearly every Wednesday evening at Clifford Village Hall.

We occasionally have to relocate or cancel due to the village Drama group plays (three times a year), so be sure to contact us before making a long journey to dance with us.
