| All first-level encounters are explained in detail what you should do. If you have any questions, e-mail me at spyyder976@yahoo.com. I will update this page as needed as I come across problems with the game. Healing: When your pc loses HP, he or she will need to heal. Normal healing is done at the rate of one HP per character level per day of rest. If you engage in combat or spellcasting, you cannot heal that day. If you have complete bed rest (doing nothing at all for the entire day), you recover 1.5 X your character level in HP (rounded down). You can also be healed magically if you have the means to do so, be it by spells or other methods. IMPORTANT!!! If you are not in a secure location in which you can rest for an entire day, such as a friendly fortress, an inn, a friendly town, a temple, etc., there is a chance that you will have a random encounter which may force you to defend yourself in combat, negating your healing for that day. Each hour of the day that you attempt to heal, roll d%, and on the appropriate roll (listed below) or below, you will have a random encounter. The level of the encounter will be based on your average party level. For ex., if you have a level 1 pc and 2 level 2 pc's, your apl is 5/3=1.666, or 2 (round up for .5 and up and down for .4999 and below). NOTE: Wandering Monsters only have a 50% chance of having a treasure ONLY IF they are intelligent (if they have average INT of 6 or higher) and ONLY IF they would normally have treasure at all!! So, if you defeat a WM, and he has a 50% chance to have treasure normally, he would only have a 25% chance to have it as a WM encounter. Addendum to above concerning how many times per day to roll for WM's, depending on where you are: In a secure location-don't bother In a dungeon-24 times per day (once per hour that you're in the dungeon, or every 6 turns, or every 60 combat rounds)-10% chance per hour that you will have a random encounter In a wilderness area, such as a forest, open plains, mountains, etc.-8% chance per hour Other: Just outside of a town (within one click away from one in any direction), along a road, other areas that are heavily-traveled, 12% chance per hour Or: An area such as the Fortress Ruins, etc., which is not secure, not populated, not a wilderness area, but is still an area where monster activity would be high-10% chance per hour Also, every 10 rounds of combat, roll for WM's, and see above for % chance for them to appear. The Level of the WM is calculated first by what type of terrain you are in, if the encounter is an overland encounter. If you are in a dungeon, it is the level of the dungeon you are in. If in a terrain, go to www.geocities.com/spyyder976/IRIntro2, which has a link at the bottom of this page. There, you will see the levels of encounters you can possibly have by the terrain type. For example, if you are in a plains area, you can have an encounter of levels 1 through 6. Next, figure your average party level (the level of all your party's pc's, divided by the # of pc's in your party). Your average party level closest to the available encounter level of that terrain is the level of encounter you will have. For instance, if your apl is 1, and you're in the plains, you will have an encounter of level 1. But, if you are in a forest, which has encounter levels no lower than level 2, your encounter will be a level 2 encounter. Also, if you are a level 7, for ex., and are in the plains area, your encounter will be a level 6 encounter, which is the highest level of encounter that is possible in the plains terrain. The Level of the WM also tells you where to go to encounter it. You will have to type it in manually, as I cannot put links to all of them on every page. For level 1, the url is http://www.geocities.com/spyyder976/IRRandom1-1, for level 2, it is the same except for it is IRRandom1-2, etc., thru IRRandom1-20. Don't forget to half the percentage of whether they would have treasure on them, but the amount of treasure they have will not vary. If it is a large treasure, just assume that it is stashed nearby and you easily found it after killing the creatures. Note that just because you may be having a level 1 encounter, for ex., you still have to do an initial % roll on that page, and you just might be encountering a higher- or lower- level creature, depending on that roll (all of this is explained on the IRRandom1-1, etc., pages). If you have the 3rd Edition manuals, you can use any combat rules that I have not covered in the battles that you wish to. You can also use miniatures or draw your combat on paper, using all of the movement and attacks of opportunity rules that haven't already been covered-it will just take a little longer for you to run your combat sequences. Just run things as you normally would, being your own DM. Again, I can answer any questions if you just ask. I would like to know who is playing the game, so please drop me an e-mail at spyyder976@yahoo.com and let me know what you think of it. It is taking quite a bit of time to create the world, along with all of the creatures, treasures, locations, etc., so if you happen to need further areas of exploration, let me know and I'll quickly put together what I can to keep the game fresh and continuously expanding. If you happen to die in the game, let me know the details of your character, your level, how you died, important events in your pc's life within the game, etc., and I will add him or her to a "memorial wall" in a temple somewhere in the world to recognize all of the fallen heroes. If you want to play with the same pc who has died earlier, just name him "Whoever" the 1st or the 2nd or III, etc., as if they are descendants of their fallen ancestors. You can also use rules such as Damaging Helpless Defenders, Cover/Concealment, Delay of Initiative, Bull Rush, Disarm, Grapple, etc., and anything you can find in the manuals to make combat more exciting and realistic. I just can't cover every detail of the books in these pages. I hope that everyone who tries this out enjoys themselves-I really enjoy creating it and playing it myself. As of now, on 1/9/02, I only have one small dungeon and a few locations in the world created, but I have spent a lot of time away from home, and many weeks just putting the monsters and creatures in for level 1 encounters. I will keep adding as I can, and if you come across something that hasn't been added yet, let me know and I will immediately let you know what treasure you have found, NPC you have met, or monster you have encountered. Thanks for playing and GOOD LUCK!!! ---Chris (FERRICK the Half-Elf Rogue) NOTE!!! You can only have a maximum of four party members at any time!! You can of course boot someone from your party, but you might not ever see him or her again! You always start alone, and you must find others to join you as you play. Some of them will always be in the same place, while others are found during random encounters. Good Luck!!--Just finished another small dungeon addition. Hope you enjoy the Hall of Monsters-if you can find it!! I am expanding the world in all directions, as well as up and down, so be patient if you come to an area that is not yet built or where there doesn't seem to be much, because there eventually will be more than you can shake a stick at!! Later, Chris 1/14/02 Please let me know if you have ANY questions regarding rules!!!! |
