A ghostly B17 is said to land on the old airstrip from time to time, the police have been called out many times by people thinking it is a drug run but have seen or heard nothing. There is also a misty figure that appears on one of the hardstands. And thanks to Duncan, who saw a silver B17 flying very low over the airfield last year in daylight, which then suddenly vanished. We are researching into which aircraft this was? Sounds of heavy bomber  engines have also been heard.

We thank Dave for sending in this report!! I was based there 1987/88 and heard a few reports of a haunting in the "old" control tower. Many a time a driver sitting alone near the tower would say that he had seen a face at the window or heard footsteps on the spiral stairs that leads to the top of the tower. One driver heard the footsteps and thought it was his mate "messing about" so he climbed the stairs to the top room but saw no one!

Another incident is about Flying officer English who was a phantom pilot on
56 f sqn. He was flying his own private aircraft when something went wrong and he crashed into "hardened aircraft shelter 12" and was killed. A few of the airmen based within 56 sqn working near the shelter have reported noises and sightings  believed to be from the dead Flying officer English.
