Astronomy - 55 Degrees North
I am Simon Murray.I live in Newcastle upon Tyne (England). My interest is in Astronomy!

My main telescope is a Vixen Ed102mm F9 with a GP mount.

I have recently acquired a Canon 300D Digital SLR.I was very lucky as I manged to obtain this obsolete model half price. I first got a chance to use on 1st September 2005 about 15 miles west of Newcastle away from light polution. You can even see the milky way stretch all the way to the Horizon! My first attempt was the
Dumbell Nebula and the globular cluster M13 in Hercules with a 400mm lens

I use
polarfinder to align the telescope and a 5 mins exposures with a 400mm lens there was no need to guide.

My interest astronomy has led me to some eclipse chasing. In 1999 I saw a Solar total eclipse in Cherbourg. On Dec 4th 2002 I photograped this eclipse from Ceduna in Australia:-
As you can see I was very lucky with the clouds! My latest two eclipse trips have been Alicante and Turkey. Both successful!

While I was in Australia I took this photo of the LMC & SMC which was published in July 2003 edition of Astronomy Now.
