2009 Draft
Size is the theme of the draft's second day for the Rams, as they add a big corner,
a big defensive lineman, and maybe the strongest WR in the history of the NFL Combine.
They closed the draft by selecting a physical RB and solid receiver, after completely
wasting a pick on a QB COACHED BY RYAN LEAF...

On the other hand, which Rams should just cover their faces, like many Ram fans had to when watching them play,
when confronted about their careers here? What this 45-man roster lacks in skill and ability, it makes up for
in arrests and ineptitude...

Hitting Bottom
It was the worst of times; it was the worst of times. Rams management started 2008 with the brilliant idea to retain head coach
Scott Linehan after a dismal 3-13 2007 season, hoping for Vermeil-like lightning to strike again. Linehan, though, proved less
than electrifying. With Steven Jackson skipping most of the preseason in a contract holdout, Al Saunders' uncreative offense
began the season in a rut and the Rams opened the season with a rancid 38-3 loss in Philadelphia. And it was almost all downhill
from there. Linehan was gone four weeks into the season. DC Jim Haslett got an undeserved promotion, and led the Rams to a couple
of wins, but that would be it. The Rams packed it in by halftime of week 9, at which point they were losing 40-0 to the
New York Jets. The only decent player on the roster was the punter. Marc Bulger took another season-long beating behind a Swiss
cheese of an offensive line and regressed even further. Jackson unsurprisingly never really found a groove. Torry Holt played
hard but moped harder. Haslett's non-smart, non-tough, non-physical defense continued to fail to get to the QB and actually
managed to set a franchise record for worst run defense. He "guided" the Rams to a ten-game losing streak, and the team finished
the worst season in the history of the franchise with a miserable 2-14 record. The only good thing about the Rams after 2008
(besides the punter) was the "Under New Management" sign they hung on the franchise shortly after the season.
If you, unlike many Rams players, coaches or executives, survived this mess, and you actually want to relive any of it,

That Super Season
With the additions of Trent Green, Marshall Faulk, Adam Timmerman, first-round draft pick
Torry Holt and a new offensive coordinator, Mike Martz, in the offseason, Rams fans entered
the 1999 season with hope their team could improve on its 4-12 record the year before.
Maybe they can go 8-8! But then a dirty hit put Green down for the season. Oh hell, they're doomed!
But then, they rallied around a journeyman QB/ex-grocery store stocker, and played good football.
Really good football...

RamView Archives
History:
Rumors in the summer of 1998 had it that preseason games of the then-lousy Rams weren't going
to be shown on local TV. I thought it would be valuable to recap games from a fan's perspective,
that fans who couldn't come to games shouldn't be stuck receiving news about the game filtered
through a select few media voices. With that motivation, "View from Row WW" was born, along with
"View from the Couch". Thanks to the Rams' seat upgrade program, "Row WW" became "Row HH" in 1999.
The name of the recap used to vary for home and road games but now comes out every week as "RamView".
RamView originated on
Usenet, and
can still be found there, as well as on the
Rampagers mailing list,
Clanram, the
Rams E-Zine at ramfans.com,
RealRamsFans, and at
The Huddle.
It's the same recap everywhere; read it wherever you like.
The archives back to 1999 have been converted to XHTML from their original Word documents
and are now available on the site. Almost all of the recaps prior to 2003 are text only,
no pictures. I intend to add pictures but that project will proceed very, very slowly.
RamView started in 1998, but the recaps sucked even more than that team did, so don't look for that anytime soon.
Suggestions not only welcomed,
but probably needed:
