Z24 BUILD PROGRESS
(UPDATED MARCH 25TH, 2005)
This page is all about the rebuild of my Z24. It's a long process but it'll be worth it in the end. I made this web page for myself and for others who are interested to follow the rebuild. I've taken many pictures and will continue to post them and details. Hope you enjoy.

(updated)   PREPPING THE Z
March 10th:
Well the car is being painted in about 2 weeks. I am painting it myself with the help of Stumpy, the Z24 sidekick. The color and details it to be a suprise. You'll see ;). I've got the list of supplies and the areas where used:
-
Various grit sandpaper to sand body down to metal, body fill to fix areas where rust has occured, sheet metal to fix wheel well,  Spray bottle to keep sandpaper wet and unclogged, masks to keep crap outta my lungs, masking tape to mask off areas not to be painted, primer to basecoat before painting, 1000 - 1500 grit sand paper for wet sanding primer, urethane to paint with, reducer to thin the paint, and activator to harden the paint. The following is for if the paint has an orange peel finish (paint looks like the surface of an orange peel): 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000 grit sand paper to remove orange peel, sanding backing pad so sand paper is used evenly, squeegee to remove excess water and sanding particals, wool buffing pad to polish paint after sanding, compound cleaner to also polish, foam buffing pad for final polish, and swirl free polish for final polish.
The car also got stripped on the outside of everything except the body to prepare for sanding and body work. We are the only people crazy enough to sand, body fill, and prime a car outside at the end of winter, but it's gotta be done to be ready for the summer. I'll have pictures of the car tomorrow. We also put the newly done over rims on it. They turned out to be pretty nice. The motor has been put to the back burner for a while. Tomorrow morning the engine parts come in so the bottom end will be together tomorrow evening, can't wait. The topend will be together next week. There is so much on the go right now with the car that it's hard to concentrate on one area. Oh well.
March 11th:
Well me and Stumpy went and picked up the parts ordered from NAPA today and then drove around buying some other crap needed. Picked up a Spark Plug Hole Chaser to fix the bad spark hole in cylinder 3. Got bodyfill and primer from Crappy Tire. Later on after supper I decided to put the crankshaft in the block with the new bearings, that went pretty smoothly. Then Stumpy came back again around 7:30 and we stayed in the barn til about 5 after 1am and completed the reassembling of the engine.
March 13th:
Today I attempted to put the water pump on but failed misserably due to the gasket for the water pump not fitting. So I decided to repaint the engine and paint the heads up. The engine is now completely painted and a picture has been added to the build page.
March 14th:
I went out and took the hood to the barn thinking I was going to sand it. Well I started it. It's very hard to do by hand. I tried the yellow primer and it turns out it was the wrong kind of primer. It's Zinc Chromate Primer. So I'll have to take it back tomorrow and get some grey primer. The car will not be ready for next Tuesday. But I'll have to try.
March 25th:
Well to my dismay I'm sorry to say the Z24 will not be going back on the road again. After further review of the body and the frame while in the works of painting it would be a waste of time putting anymore work into it. So it will be coming back to my house for alittle bit while it gets stripped of all it's parts. These will be put into a parts car which will become the new Z24. I do not yet have a donor but I am cuurently searching for one. Hopefully next week I'll know and get my hands on one. I'll keep you updated on here as to what is going on and any more progress. Thanks!
And that's it for now folks. Everyday is a new day and we are trying to keep on top of the build to have the car together and running the 2nd week of April. Looking good so far. Just waiting on part orders. Thanks for keeping up to date on my build.
