My Mother, Mavis Lorraine Mawhinney nee Thornton, was born and raised in Upper Matakitaki, Murchison New Zealand. My Mother was the youngest of 8 children born to Joseph and Mary Thornton.

My Mother stayed and worked on  the family  farm until after the war, she then met and married Robert Mawhinney.  After living and working for the Public Works at Shennandoah, they went North to the Hutt Valley where my Father was a builder.  My parents were married for 47 years, and I was the youngest of 3 children, having 2 older brothers.  My Mother lived out her twilight years in the little township of Foxton, my Father lives not too far from me now  in the Fergusson  Home in Upper Hutt.
