Nov 2003 - Please sign CIDAG's petition to encourage the implementation of the recent law by the Greek authorities.

Until now, all the animal protection laws voted by the Greek parliament have never been implemented. Now, less than one year before the Olympics, we have to mobilize ourselves so that national and local Greek authorities take the necessary measures to implement this law. The signatures collected by the petition will be handed over in a few months.

	Every year, numerous litters of puppies and kittens are dumped in the streets by irresponsible pet owners. Do they think that abandoning new born puppies or kittens is less cruel than putting them into sleep? Most of them even don’t question themselves about it. Anyhow, these animals are condemned to die. New born puppies or kittens don’t have any chance to survive more than a few days or weeks. They absolutely need the milk of their mother to grow and be well. Puppies and kittens taken away too soon from their mother are weak and quickly fall ill, particularly if they are thrown in the street. Besides, one should know that young animals without any medical care develop faster than adults numerous sicknesses. They are rapidly weakened, ill, and invaded by internal worms which eat into their digestive system, and provoke an agonizing death. If you don’t want litters, the more appropriate solution is to sterilize/castrate your animal(s). This is a benign chirurgical intervention, which advantage is the prevention of some sicknesses that non sterilized/castrated animals may develop. Besides, sterilized/castrated animals don’t run away anymore to breed and, despite a preconceived idea, they keep all their energy and vitality. If you refuse to sterilize/castrate your animal(s), it is your responsibility to make sure that there will not be any unwanted litters. If your animal(s) breeds, don’t be a coward, take the responsibility upon yourself.
