A Beacon in the Wilderness: The History of the Port of Los Angeles
Los Angeles.

The very name conjures up strikingly different images of wealth, culture, luxury and vast natural beauty.  The urban sprawl of Los Angeles winds its way from dry fields and rocky hills down to the harsh cliffs of Palos Verdes, Wilmington, and San Pedro.  It is at this coastal spot that Worldport L.A., one of the largest and busiest seaports in the world, calls home.

This page is an online conjunction with my STPA35 research paper on the history of the port of Los Angeles.  It is my hope that this site help you better understand the fascinating circumstances that led to a world-class port in two and a half centuries.

I hope you enjoy the site, and feel free to email me at
