Wow! I love Montipora spp. This green species
with lavender edges on the left is probably Montipora confusa and was obtained as a tiny
2" frag and now it is about 5" across. I like Montipora spp. because they grow
fast, come in a variety of colors and shapes and are very easy (sometimes too easy) to
frag. |

TANK:
100 gallon acrylic TruVu that measures 60"x18"x20". There's
about 80 pounds of live rock, and 80 pounds of sand. |
 |
CANOPY: Lighting consists of 3-175 W 10K
ushios and 4-32 W actinic PCs. Halides are on roughly 8 hours/day, power compacts 12.
Custom 12" canopy has two very quite 5" 75 cfpm Toyo fans. Two 50 liter/min
(>800 gph) external bilge pumps provide extra water motion. One bilge pump is on a
UPS/400 to provide water circulation in the event of a power outage. [Each pump draws
0.21A, so 3.3A should drive one pump for 15 hrs] |
 |
Second DIY project was 30" nilson kalkwasser reactor that helps
maintain pH as well as Calcium level. Fun project. Spectrapure Liter meter injects
1.5 liters per day of RO/DI water into reactor. MaxiJet 500 (100 gph) powerhead
mixes kalkwasser for about 5 minutes of every hour.. [Neptune Aquacontroller handles the
oscillating pump] |

Size comparison between my old trusty ETSS Reef Devil and the new ASM G3.
The sedra pump is noiser than the eheim 600, but lots of tiny bubble and skimate!
Highly recommend ASM. |

SUMP:
Main return is provided by a 1250 gph Custom SeaLife (CSL) T-4 protected from back flow
via a true-union flapper check valve. Sedra 5000 drives ASM G3 protein skimmer. AquaTune
provides about 1 US gallon of RO/DI water per day from 15 gallon reservoir. Most
electrical components are driven by X-10 via Neptune Aquacontroller. Aqualogic 1/4 HP
Chiller keeps the temp below 82.5 deg F. Korallin C1502 installed to maintain
Ca/Alk. Occasionally dose with ESV's Bionic and Seachem products. |

| Daily Routine |
Longer term Routines |
| 1) Fish are fed twice daily two cubes of frozen brine and
mysis shrimp. Chunks of Formula 1 are also occasionally offered. More food is offered on
weekends. 2) Wipe algae off inside tank surfaces. |
1) Ca, Mg, Alk and NO3 are tested and logged into log book
with observations of tank and Temp/pH/ORP readings from Aquacontroller. 2) Impellers
cleaned when needed or 3mo; which ever comes first.
3) 20 ml of Bionic is added with preparations of Seachem Ca, Sr, Mn and Buffer.
4) Coral frags and other inverts happily traded with fellow aquarists. |
