These trips are designed for birders and nature lovers at all levels of experience. We are delighted to have both Chapter members and non-members join us for these trips. Families and children of all ages are welcome. If you have any questions about a trip, please call the leader or field trip chair.
Membership meetings are normally held the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30. Coffee hour for socializing begins at 7:00. A small bookstore of interesting books is maintained. Meeting location alternates among the counties and program topics include birding and other nature and environmental subjects. Non-members are welcomed and encouraged to attend. .

Audubon Christmas Bird Count: Part of the major volunteer effort to provide long term data on birds in North America [as well as a great social event for all the family]. Environmental Education Training Grants to Southern Maryland Teachers: Scholarship Grants to attend Audubon summer environmental camps are supported by a variety of Chapter fund raising projects through the year. Audubon Adventures: Curriculum materials are placed in local classrooms at the request of teachers to support environmental educational efforts.
Nanjemoy Marsh Sanctuary: A 50-acre sanctuary owned by the Chapter in a very environmentally sensitive area of Southern Maryland. Trail access only.
The Maryland DNR needs "Stream Monitoring Volunteers" to assist with the "Maryland Biological Stream Survey". Interested SMAS members (and others) please e-mail streamwaders@dnr.state.md.us
Migratory bird species habitat evaluation: Research studies in Southern Maryland to compile a data base for use by various organizations and agencies for long term habitat evaluation and regulation in the region.
Raptor Conservation: The Chapter is pleased to provide support and assistance in conservation of Osprey and Barn Owls in our region.
The Adopt-an-Osprey Program: Osprey banding has been conducted by the Chapter for over 15 years. An osprey may be "adopted" for $10 by writing to the an Adopt-an-Osprey Program at our mailing address. Or click here.
"Birders" Bookstore: Small Bookstore operating at meetings and special events and serving the "Birders" special needs.
