The Trap Door

In the dark, nasty regions, where nobody goes, lies an ancient castle.... This castle was home to: Berk, a blue blob with two eyes on top - the overworked servant to " him upstairs "; Boni, a moaning old skull, and Drutt, an annoying, small yellow whizzing thing.

In each episode - which lasted 5 minutes - Berk would be getting lunch for his master upstairs, or tidying up for him, but was always somewhat inhibited by Drutt and creatures which lay below the trapdoor, where no-one dared to go, hence the title. Berk would " bonk " things over the head if they were a nuisance, and often tried to trap Drutt under the trap door, which was a bit harsh, even for Drutt.

This programme was an animated masterpiece of its time ( 1984 ), was narrated by Willie Rushton and had a catchy themetune.

Despite always being set in the same part of the castle, each episode was unique and entertaining to watch. The programme has been repeated on Channel Four, as recently as 1999, and is available on video ( most HMV branches stock it ).
