San Lorenzo High School's Roll of Honor

Eleven former San Lorenzo High School students died while in combat during the Vietnam War. Eight students graduated from San Lorenzo, three transferred from SLZHS before their graduation. In keeping with the desires of the San Lorenzo Veterans Memorial Program team members, all former San Lorenzo students will be honored. Edward "Kenny" Ferguson Class of 1962 Cross-Country - 1960, 61 & 62 Track  - 1961 & 62 Key Club - 1962 Boy's League - 1962 Block SL Club - 1960 & 61 Kenny served in the Army and was killed on July 4, 1967 at the age of 23

Gary A. Plumb Class of 1962 Baseball - 1959 & 60 Gary transferred from SLZHS prior to graduation. If you knew Gary after he left our school, please contact us. Gary served in the Army and was killed on March 11, 1967. He was 22. Gary was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism.

Michael A. Welch Class of 1963 Michael transferred from SLZHS prior to graduation. We are trying to locate anyone who knew Michael. His home of record when he joined the army was Crockett, Calif. Michael served in the Army and was killed on April 8, 1967. He was 21 years old.

James D. Burns Class of 1965 Baseball - 1962, 63, 64 & 65 Football - 1962 Honor Roll - 1962, 63, 64 & 65 Block SL Club - 1965 Jim served in the Army. He was killed on April 26, 1969. He was 21 years old.

Willis G. Cardin Class of 1965 Basketball - 1962, 63 & 64 Baseball - 1962, 63, 64 & 65 Wrestling - 1963 Football - 1964 & 65 Block SL Club - 1965 Willis served with the Army. He was killed on February 6, 1968 at the age of 21.

Gerald R. 'Jerry' Henry Class of 1965 After his freshman year Jerry transferred from SLZHS to Tennyson High in Hayward, Calif. If you knew Jerry at Tennyson, please contact us. Jerry served with the Marine Corps. He was killed on July 7, 1967 at the age of 20.

James D. Piper Class of 1965 Baseball - 1962 Wrestling - 1962 Football - 1962 & 63 Swim Team Manager - 1962 Block SL Club - 1963, 64 & 65 James served in the Army. He was killed on April 11, 1967. He died just 17 days before his 20th birthday.

Steve A. Srsen Class of 1965 Wrestling - 1962, 63, 64 & 65 Representative Assembly - 1965 Senior Assembly - 1965 Drama Productions - 1965 Steve was a member of the North Coast Co-Championship wrestling team of 1965. Steve served in the Marine Corps. He was killed on January 27, 1967. He died saving the life of another Marine. For this act of heroism Steve received the Navy Cross. Steve died just 2 days after his 20th birthday.

David E. Barber Class of 1967 Wrestling - 1964, 65, 66 & 67 Photography Club - 1966 David was a member of two championship wrestling teams from San Lorenzo - the 1965 & 1966 teams. David served in the Marine Corps. He was killed on June 8, 1968 - less than a year after his graduation. He was only 18 years old.

Michael W. Green Class of 1967 Boys' League - 1964, 65, 66 & 67 Cross-Country - 1964 Michael served in the Marine Corps. His calm professional manner was an inspiration to all who served with him. He was killed on May 11, 1969. He was 20.

Gary L. Giovannelli Class of 1968 Track - 1967 Gary served in the Navy. He had served in Korea and did not have to serve in Vietnam. He volunteered anyway. He felt it was the right thing to do. He served in River Division 543. He was killed on February 14, 1970. He was 19 years old.
