Jennifer to Star in Dark Comedy - Friends star Jennifer Aniston and her husband Brad Pitt are in negotiations to produce a dark comedy together.
Jennifer would star in the as-yet-untitled comedy as the wife of a wealthy politician who is confronted by her past when the 10-year-old son she gave up for adoption resurfaces in her life. Katherine Fugate pitched the idea to New Line Cinema and will write the movie, according to Variety.
No deals are in place for the producers, but Brad Grey, Brad Pitt and Jennifer are in early talks to produce through their production company, which is based at Warner Bros. Pictures. The pitch is based on an idea from Wayne Rice (Dude, Where's My Car?), who is also negotiating to produce with Mike Karz (Malibu's Most Wanted).
Fugate wrote Miramax Films' upcoming Carolina, which stars Julia Stiles and is slated for a June release. She also penned The Prince and the Freshman for Paramount Pictures, which should go into production this summer.

No More Mr. Nice Guy - It’s no more Mr. nice guy for friendly David Schwimmer. He's turned Hollywood sleaze ball and for a good reason. He says, "It's a lot of fun to play a guy like this."
David is starring as a seedy screenwriter in "Turnaround," a dark new comedy hitting the theater. And don't expect any six figure paychecks; David told "Extra" he's working for free. He explains, "We'e all working for free."
Doing their thing on stage with Schwimmer is "That Thing You Do's" Tom Everett Scott, and real life best friend Jonathan Silverman, who plays quite the jerk. Silverman says, "They're just disgusting human beings."
With a hit show, a hot play, and even strolling the Golden Globe carpet with a gal pal, David swears he has no time for a social life. He says, "I don't, honestly." But David does have time for his friends at NBC, and he tells "Extra" that his co-stars were all in agreement to do one more year of their hit show. He says, "I guess the good thing is that everybody is on board and really excited." - Extra

Courteney Cox Plays Interior Designer - With only one more season to go -- and a short one, at that - Friends star Courteney Cox will shift to a dual role behind the camera as creator and executive producer of "Mix It Up," a new home-improvement program scheduled to premiere this fall on the cable channel WE: Women's Entertainment.
Production of the first 13 episodes is due to start in the spring or summer. The program is described by the network as "an unscripted, 'Trading Spaces'-like show" that will track people with diverse tastes who move in together. Interior designers will play peacemaker and stylist as roommates blend their two styles into something both can live with.
By roommates, the network explained, the show will present a husband and wife, a parent and child, or even friends and strangers matched by a service.
"If you're moving in with your girlfriend, and you have a wagon-wheel coffee table and she has all chintz and feathers, the show will find a middle ground," a WE spokeswoman says.
Courteney, who's married to actor David Arquette, 31, credits the idea for the show to her own personal experience. "When my husband and I moved in together, it was quite a challenge blending my more refined sensibilities with his more outrageous tastes and vast collection of tchotchkes," says Cox, 38. "It's the reality of moving in with anyone, a situation which often involves conflict, which should make for a very entertaining program." - People Magazine

Brad Rejects Jen's Friends Reunited Plan - Movie star Brad Pitt has turned down the chance to play opposite his wife Jennifer Aaniston in Friends for a second time.
The Fight ClubB star appeared in an episode of the hit comedy series where he played an old school friend of David Schwimmer's character Ross Gellar with a hatred for Aniston's Rachel Green. After a rave reception from the show's fans, the cameo earned Pitt an Emmy nomination, but he is still not interested in repeating the experience.
He says, "You can do these things once. Then that's it. Doing it again just wouldn't have the same impact." And a source adds, "Brad diplomatically explained to Jen he saw himself as a serious actor." - Infobeat

Brad And Jen's Marriage Crisis - Hollywood supercouple Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are the latest celebrities involved in a marriage crisis - according to British magazine Closer. The magazine claims the impossibly good looking pair have been struggling to save their ailing relationship since their doomed holiday with Friends pal Courteney Cox and husband David Arquette.
And now the magazine reports that Brad has become close to a female member of the crew on his latest project, leaving Jennifer angry and hurt.
A source quoted in Closer says, "Filming doesn't start until April, but Brad has been busy working with the director and producers and has befriended one particular woman from the team. He's got pretty close to her over the past few weeks and they spend a lot of time together.
"A week before the Golden Globe Awards, Brad had a day-long production meeting scheduled. Jen finished her day's shooting and went to surprise Brad and take him to lunch, but when she arrived he and this girl were in some executive office alone.
"She walked out and got back in her car. Brad went after her and tried to explain that she had the wrong idea, but she didn't listen and just got in her car and drove off.
"This girl is gorgeous and Jen smells trouble. Since Brad's going to be working on Troy for the next year, and the girl will too, Jen's told Brad that while she'd never deny him friends, he might want to try cozying up to one of his male co-stars instead if he wants harmony at home." - Infobeat

Courteney, Penelope, Mya to Add Fizz - Pepsi had Madonna, Britney and now Beyonce - so now Coke is borrowing a few tips from its rival and plugging Penelope Cruz, Courteney Cox and Mya into its advertising.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Coca-Cola is introducing a new ad campaign "with a lineup seemingly torn straight from the pages of PEOPLE magazine."
According to the paper, Friends star Courteney Cox, 38, is shown in one commercial pouring a Coke for her husband, actor David Arquette, 31. "By showing celebrities in real-life situations," the Journal reports, "Coke hopes to drive home the point that its brand still deserves to be an integral part of people's everyday lives." The slogan, which is also to be featured in a new print-ad campaign, will be "Coca-Cola Real," which echoes the drink's classic "The Real Thing" tagline. (The commercials have now aired) - Friends Newsletters

Jennifer Happy Doing Whatever - Screen beauty Jennifer Aniston thinks her life would have been equally rewarding if she'd never made it in Hollywood. The Friends beauty spent many a year working as a waitress and believes that a life of taking orders would have been no bad thing.
She says, "I was never really sure that I'd ever make it as an actor. I never had great expectations, so there was a part of me that felt like, if I'm a waitress for the rest of my life, fine, I'll be a waitress." - Infobeat

Jennifer Was Addicted To Dieting - Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston suffered an eating disorder which destroyed her health and turned her into a dieting addict. The wife of Hollywood hunk Brad Pitt went from a size 8 to a slim 2 after beginning a diet four years ago that turned into an obsession. She says, "I got to a place where I was sick a lot, my energy was low and I wasn't happy. I started taking vitamins and exercising and went too far. You get in that Zone Diet thing and you get kind of addicted to that."
Jennifer, who won a Golden Globe award for her role as Rachel Green in popular American comedy series Friends, joins a long list of stars - which includes Sandra Bullock and Calista Flockhart - who have put themselves through the controversial carbohydrate-free diet.
Jennifer managed to wean herself off the diet, which in extreme cases causes liver damage and infertility. The Good Girl star was supported by Brad, who recently revealed he wants to start a family. The 33-year-old actress - who's now a healthy size - says, "Now I eat food, I work out, but I don't go crazy. I'm just healthy."
She believes her insecurity stems from her childhood days of watching TV soap operas, which featured a range of beautiful actresses. She says it was her aim in life to look like them: "Their hair, clothes and make-up were perfect. Looking back, I realize it wasn't a good thing. I was wanting to become this unattainable person." - Infobeat

Hobbling Jennifer Is People's Choice - Jennifer Aniston left fans scratching its head last night when she hobbled onstage at the People's Choice Awards in Pasadena, California, with the help of a cane.
The Friends star had to be helped onto the stage by castmate Matthew Perry when she was awarded the Favorite Female TV Performer prize, but she refused to explain why she was hobbling. It was a good night for the actress, however - Friends also claimed the Favorite TV Comedy Series. - Infobeat

Friends Will Return, But Will It Be Worth It? - So they're coming back one more time. Again. If you're a fan of Friends, and what right-thinking American isn't, that should be good news. Another season of Friends is hugely good news for NBC. The agreement to go for a 10th season is a week old now, and the executives at NBC are still high fiving and dancing in the end zone. It's certainly good news for the producers and stars, who get another year of working together (and these folks really do like each other), of trying to get feature film careers to stick, and of making so much money it doesn't really matter if they ever work again. (The New York Times reported that each of the six stars will earn $20.5 million next season.)
The question is, then: Does everyone win, other than opposing networks? Probably not. This is not good news for the show Friends itself. When it comes to keeping series on the air longer than it should, ruining a show's reputation and paying hugely for the privilege, NBC has a track record. You want a worst-case scenario? We have two words: Mad About You. OK, that's three words, but, after paying series stars Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt $22 million each for one last, gasping season, has there ever been a more expensive disaster with a veteran show?
Friends will not be a disaster. Its writing staff is too smart, and its cast is too endowed with comic timing to be a total catastrophe, but already this season the plots seem strained. You have to wonder how much longer the whole enterprise can last. Does anyone want to go through another year of the Ross and Rachel game, or of wondering if Chandler and Monica will get pregnant? (And the show surely does not need another baby.) We can take lots of Phoebe, and certainly you can't get enough of Joey learning how to use air quotes, but as a group this attractive, charming, talented bunch has stayed at the party a very long time.
It's easy to see why NBC wants Friends for another year, even at a price tag of approximately $9 million per episode, which is more than the ads on the show will earn back for the network. Friends has more value to NBC than just its own ads. It kickstarts NBC's still-strong Thursday lineup, helps promote other NBC shows and allows the network to sell ad time on other shows as part of a package deal that includes Friends. Plus, it buys another year of development for NBC's comedy department, which, frankly, could use it. NBC's popular comedies are aging, but other than Scrubs, its comedy team is 0-for-this-century, and need we even bring up Good Morning: Miami?
Creatively, Friends probably should get off the stage sooner rather than later. There is, after all, the old showbiz adage about leaving 'em wanting more. And nine seasons is already a long time for a show that can't afford too much character growth, plus this season has run out a bunch of story lines designed to lead the gang toward series-ending conclusions that, as executive producer Marta Kauffman has said, leaves viewers feeling good about where the six of them are going in the world. Now the writers have to pull out of their dive and essentially stall for another season.
On the other hand, Friends has had more comebacks than, uh, someone who has had a lot of comebacks. Every time it seems to have run out of good ideas and funny writing, the producers and stars come up with a strong episode or a great season.
So, next season we'll get 18 more episodes (down from the usual 24) of what will undoubtedly still be the most popular comedy on TV, and most of us will still watch when we're not watching Survivor or CSI or whatever ends up airing opposite Friends. And despite our best judgment, we'll still probably wonder why Ross and Rachel don't just stop whining and stay together. - The Augusta Chronicle

NBC's Friendship Extended - "We'll be there for you." That's the tune sung by the Friends folks this weekend as NBC announced a deal that would bring America's favorite sitcom back for another year.
An agreement signed early Saturday morning between NBC and the show's producer, Warner Bros. Television, will bring the Central Perk crew back for a 10th and presumably final season. (Of course, that's what we thought about this season.) The Peacock network will pay about $10 million per episode, the most money ever spent on a prime-time sitcom. Friends' current tab is about $7 million an episode, still costlier, minute-by-minute, than NBC's other über-investment, ER, which clocks in at about $6.5 million per half hour. - E! Online

Good Girl Jennifer In Line For Award - Friends star Jennifer Aniston is up for an award for her portrayal of a fed-up shop worker in independent film The Good Girl.
Jennifer has been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award - which are presented just before the Oscars next year. The film Lovely & Amazing starring British actresses Brenda Blethyn and Emily Mortimer has earned the most nominations for the prestigious honours. Mortimer received a best supporting female award nomination, and faces competition from four other actresses including Juliette Lewis (Hysterical Blindness) and Viola Davis (Antwone Fisher). - Infobeat

Courteney Cox and Brad Pitt to Build Holiday Home - Courteney is set to team up with Jennifer's husband Brad Pitt - to build their ideal house. The brunette actress, married to David Arquette, is a great lover of properties and enjoys renovating homes before selling them on - the most recent of which was to American talk show host Ricki Lake.
Courteney has noticed that Jennifer's spouse is just as passionate and knowledgeable about homes and furniture - so much so that she wants to build a joint holiday home. She says of Brad: "We spend a lot of time talking about architecture. We've talked about getting a few couples together, buying a piece of property and building a vacation home on it."
"I could talk to him for hours about architecture. He not only gets it, he's brilliant about it. I aspire to have his taste. If you give me boundaries, like, 'Okay, this is what you have to work with, now make it great,' I think I can make something great out of a box. But Brad goes beyond the box. He comes up with ideas I wouldn't even know how to go about."
Se also says: "I definitely feel like I'm expanding myself, but Brad takes what I can do and completely surpasses me." - Infobeat

Courteney Says Marriage OK After Name Switch - When Courteney Cox Arquette went back to being just Courteney Cox, some people wondered if she and David Arquette were having marital problems. But the "Friends" co-star says all is well. Cox Arquette - or Cox - tells that she started going by her maiden name in some situations out of respect for her father, Richard Cox, who died of cancer last year. She also says when she was a kid, she didn't like the name Cox and wanted a different one.
"When I was a kid, I wanted to change my name so badly because I didn't like it. Now that my dad's gone, I don't want to lose it," the 38-year-old actress tells. Courteney met Arquette, 31, on the 1996 movie "Scream," but they didn't start dating until the following year, when they made "Scream 2." They married in June 1999. - In-style Magazine

No Laughing Matter - Friends star Matthew Perry is getting serious about his film career. The actor has been cast opposite Robin Tunney in the big-screen relationship drama Fever. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the indie centers around a couple "who are shocked out of the predictability of their relationship by an event that challenges them to either love more deeply or lose each other for good." Sounds like they lost the remote. - TV Guide

Dermot Mulroney Starring in Friends - According to NBC, Dermot Mulroney ("My Best Friend's Wedding") will be guest-starring in three episodes of "Friends" as a potential office rival who angers Rachel when he fills in and does her job while she is on maternity leave. Mulroney will first appear in the episode "The One Where Rachel Goes Back to Work," for broadcast in mid January. - Friends Newsletters

Tony Danza will host the live CBS telecast from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on January 12. - People's Choice

Courteney And David Protest Reubens Innocence - Hollywood couple Courteney Cox and David Arquette have leapt to the defense of fellow actor Paul Reubens - who was arrested and charged on child pornography charges last Friday. The Pee Wee Herman star was charged with misdemeanor possession of obscene material improperly depicting a minor by Los Angeles police - but Courteney and David have joined Paul Reubens in protesting his innocence. The pair called the charges "absolutely outrageous" and "unfair". - Infobeat

Christina Applegate Joins Friends for Thanksgiving - Christina Applegate has appeared before a TV studio audience in the neighborhood of 300 times over the past 15 years. Yet when she did a guest role on an episode of Friends recently, she felt something new.
"I found myself incredibly nervous on show night, which I never was before," she recalls. "I was petrified; I couldn't believe it. I was laughing at myself -'Why are you so freaked out?'" She says everything turned out well after all. Still, the experience of being a guest star after many years of working as a sitcom regular - on "Married... with Children" and later "Jesse" - was a little daunting.
"You walk into an environment where they've been doing it for so long, and they're in and out really quick, so I kind of had to play catch-up all week," she says. "To get back on my toes like that was a bit of an adjustment. But it does work out. It's amazing how it all pulls together."
The way she got the job was a little easier. Friends honchos Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane were also the executive producers of "Jesse" and they thought of her to play Rachel's other sister, Amy.
"I got a call from David Crane and he said, 'Would you even consider doing an episode of... ' and before he could even finish I said 'absolutely. I'll absolutely do an episode of Friends'."
(...)
"Unfortunately for Rachel, she doesn't have the nicest sisters in the world," Applegate says of her character. Amy, in fact, is "sort of a distasteful human being. Rachel's very together, and Amy tries to be as together as Rachel is," she says. "So that ends up causing friction. It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without friction." - Zap2it

Brad & Jennifer Split On Baby Plans - Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston's marriage is in trouble over the actress' plans to film another season of hit sitcom Friends.
Brad was hoping to start a family with his pretty wife when the current season of the show - reportedly the last - ends next year. But Jennifer plans to carry on and has told her husband that their baby making plans will have to wait another year. Friends of the couple claim the actress' hopes of filming another season of the show have driven a wedge between them.
A source: "She wants to do a 10th season and Brad is extremely upset. This was going to be the year Jennifer was going to clear all the decks so they could start concentrating full time on building a family."
An insider adds that Jennifer was the last of the sextet of the show's stars to agree to another season. A pal says, "She explained to Brad that everyone had gotten nostalgic over the show's recent 200th episode anniversary, and agreed in principle to go for another year." - Infobeat
