Cheats

They say cheaters never prosper, but who cares? Here are some lesser known cheats, you'll have to look for the "money cheat" somewhere else. If you discovered a cheat here, let me know, and I'll attribute it to you.

All Needs Bars Green

Save your game. Then go into buy or build mode, and click crtl-shift-c. Type "move_objects on" (w/o quotes) left click on your sim and press delete. Go back to live mode, and there will be a red circle with a plus sign in it on the face icon of the sim you deleted. Click on that sim's icon. Your sim will return with all their bars green! You must save BEFORE deleting a sim, or your sim will loose skill points and promotions gained since the last save.

Skill Points

This cheat works when you are in the create-a-family screen. Create a child sim. When you're back to the add a family member screen, click on the child icon, and then the edit icon. Toggle from child to adult and pick a new head and skin if you wish. Do Not Click On Personality Points. click finish. Add family members if you wish, then move your new family into a house. The adult sim you created will have various skill points, and a job worth $0 an hour(a message saying carpool will arive in an hour does show up, but no carpool), which you can get rid of by taking a new job.

Babies: The Easy Way

After a baby is born, pause the game and look to make sure that none of your sims has a cradle icon in their list of actions. If any do, let the game run until none of them do. Then go into buy or build mode and press shift-ctrl-c and type "move_objects on" then click on your sims and press delete, similar to the first cheat. Make sure you delete every sim living in your house. Go back to live mode and unpause the game. Do not click on any face icons, as this would bring your sims back, you don't want them back! After a few sim-hours a message will pop up telling you that you have to take care of the baby or the authorites will come, click ok, they won't come. Let the game run for three sim days, and exactly 72 hours after your child was born, it will become a child. The side effects are minimal, being that the child will have only 20 relation points with his parents to start instead of 50, and that they may loose personality points if they have a sibling. But, if you're willing to cheat this much, you make as well fix it with the sims edit avalible on the sims resource, right?

Expensive House Cheat

Create a family and have them purchase a vacent lot, being careful to note the lot#. Save and quit. unzip your house of choice and rename so it is the same # as the vacent lot your sims just bought. Move the house to the user data/house folder (click yes to overwrite current house if asked) Start the game, and they will be living in the house!

House So Nice, Have It Twice.
If you have a house you really like, you don't have to evict your family in order to give the house to another family. You can make that house exist on more than one lot, and even in different neighborhoods. Keep in mind that the family doesn't move too, though, just the house and it's furnishings. For the purpose of the instuctions, I'll assume you have LL(when mentioning userdata folders), but if you have the sims, you can still move from lot to lot.
Here's what to do: 1. note to yourself these things while playing the game - the lot number of the house you want to copy, the lot number of the house/lot you're going to replace by duplicating the house, and the neighborhood numbers of both lots.
2. quit the game and go into the Program/Maxis/the sims/userdata/house folder that the house you want to copy is in. Right click the house you want to copy and select "copy.
3. Do one of the following
a. If you want the house to appear in the same nighborhood on another lot, go up to the edit menu and select paste. When you do you'll have a house named "copy of house#" Or
b. If you want the house to appear in a different neighborhood, go to the userdata folder of the nighborhood it's going into and open house folder. When you do you'll have a house named "copy of house#"
4. right-click on the house that you are replacing and click delete.(Or, if you like the house at all, move it to a folder that doesn't have houses in it by dragging it out of the house folder) Don't forget which number it was!
5. Right click on your "copy of house#" and select rename. Rename it to what ever the house you removed was called "house#" 6. Restart your game, and see your house on its new lot!

Outdoor Carpet Hint

Not exactly a cheat, but neat to know. Many sites offer "snow" and "sand" tiles to make the lot look like, sand or snow. The only problem with this is that you can't put flowers and trees on the carpets. However, if you put a rug over the carpets, you can place the outdoors objects on them (unfortunately you can't do it in the house too, oh well) and after you've done that, just click on the rug to delete it, and your trees and flowers will remain on the snow or sand carpets.

Controllable Twins!!

So you already know that clicking on a kid's face icon as it's turning from baby to child gets you twins, but you can only control one, right? How would you like twins that can BOTH be controlled??
Have a baby and care for it (or use the baby cheat above) until it is three days old. The moment it's done turning into a child a box will come up saying something like "congradulations! Your care has helped Billy turn from a baby to a child!" As soon as you see the box, click enter then "p" "p" pauses the game, of course. Now go into build or buy and turn move objects on if it's not already on. Delete your child, and go back to live mode. When you unpause the game a new cradle will form where you child was. Your original child can be brought back by clicking their icon. Now you have twins, both controllable.

These twins are fraternal, which means they can be either different genders or the same gender and look different. While some will argue they can't be twins unless they look alike, this is ridiculous, since most twins don't look alike. All the word twins means is they are siblings(2) who were concieved at the same time. In real life, science allows twins to be born years apart now, just like this.

Rename Your Sims

If you have sims that didn't get the right first name (like they are named "simchild" or if you had twins and they got the same name) you'd probably like to re-name them. This the only way to do it. Do Not Edit The Last Names

This is not an easy cheat, so you may want to make a back up your sim if you have no experience with a hex editor, so you don't lose him or her. That said, this is how to rename a sim...

1. You need to download a hex-editor. All the instructions I give will be based on Nitrohex 1.3, so I'll give you the URL of the site where you can download a Free version. I like this one best, so that's why I'm suggesting it. go here when you're at this page click on download now. Once it's downloaded completely, follow the install instructions. (if it asks to make short cuts, pick yes)
2. You also need to know what # your character is. I recommend using the Sims Character Makeover Studio (download at www.thesims.com) because you can not only see the sims in question it also tells you the # of each character. Write down his current name if you think you won't remember the exact spelling. Just the first name. Close it before you open the hex editor.
3. Go into the Userdata folder of the sim you've picked to rename, and open the character folder. right click on the character that ends in the right number, User00005 for example, and select "copy." Paste this copy to your desktop, and then ignore it, this is your back up of the character.
4.Open Nitrohex, probably by picking it from the startmenu under programs, or from a short cut.
5. When the registration screen opens up, don't type anything just click ok.
6. It will take several seconds to fully load. When you see the blinking cursor, go up to file and pick "open" and open the Maxis/userdata/character folder that the character is in and select the user##### of the sim you're renaming. 7. Another box like the registration one will pop up.Just click "ok" again.
8. You should now see the screen filled with numbers and random letters, set up in blue, black and brown collumns Don't do anything to them. Instead, go to the Edit menu at the top of the screen and pick "Find/Replace"
9. In the first blank type in the Sim's current name, exactly. click on "find." This should scroll down the screen for you and highlight both the name and some 0's and 1's in red. See it? 10. In the second blank type in new name. Click on "replace" then on "close" once it does.
11. Go back to file and save. Now, either start the sims, or restart the character editor. You sim should have a new name. If it worked, you can now delete the copy of the user#### that you put on your desktop.

That's all for now, but you can e-mail me your cheat or hint at theevilwriter@aol.com and I'll add it to this site as long as it's not a run of the mill one. In other words, no money cheats, water tool cheats, map cheats, deleting bills or any other cheats that only involve typing in codes, there are tons of sites for that.
