| WELCOME! This site is about the 'dreaded' sickle-cell disorder from a personal angle. The disorder affects 4 million Nigerians, several million other Africans within and outside Africa, Asians, Arabs, Turks, Southern Europeans, and others. Thanks for visiting this site. I hope you enjoy looking round! This site was created to complement others of its kind to sensitize the nations to the extreme suffering caused by this extraordinary inherited illness. Oftentimes the illness constitutes a huge drain on the physical, mental and social resources of the sufferer and his care-giver, as well as a drain on the financial, health and human resources of the country of origin. It will be Bye-bye to 'Love' and Welcome to good sense! Already over 25% of my countrymen are carriers of the sickle cell gene Please don't feel too busy or unconcerned to check if you carry the sickle cell gene. Although it affects sufferers in variable ways and times, the consequences of being a sickler can be far-reaching.The gene has spread its tentacles beyond the primary risk groups and can affect other races too.; A simple and inexpensive blood test would reveal your status. And if you are among thehaving family risk group (African, Indian, Caribbean, Arab, etc), a blood test is imperative even if you are not having family y |
