| <Japanese Martial Arts: A Way of Education> The concept of Japanese Martial Arts is different from US. Japanese Martial Arts is taught as one of the education. Many Japanese people learn it not for fighting, but for developing their own body strength, mind, and energy. At middle / high school, students learn martial arts as one of the subjects along the school curriculums which Ministry of Education of Japan regulates for free of charge. Not only young people, but also adults/seniors practice it for maintaining good health and spirit. <Shorinji Kempo: Unity of Martial Arts & Zen> Shorinji Kempo is one of Japanese official modern Martial Arts, which is based on Zen Buddhism. Hundred thousands of Japanese people practice it at middle / high school, college, or district branches in Japan. Shorinji Kempo should not be confused with Shaolin Kung Fu, Shorinji-Ryu Karate, or other martial arts which have Shaolin, Shorin, or Shorinji in names. The pracice places equal emphasis on training mind and body by practice of technique and Zen meditation. Members practice along Shorinji Kempo Curriculum which is mutual all over the world. Through its practice, members can acquire Self-defense,Spiritual cultivation,& Health Improvement. For children, Shorinji Kempo brings up their body and mind. For teenagers / youth, Shorinji Kempo develops their body strength and nurtures spirit greatly. For adults, Shorinji Kempo fosters their health and energy well. For women, Shorinji Kempo enhances their healthy diet excellently. For seniors, Shorinji Kempo maintains their good health and cultivates their energy well. <Techniques> Shorinji Kempo teaches Goho (block, punch, kick), Juho (releasing throwing), & Seiho (Adjusting body balance) along well-organized curriculums. Members can practice in accordance with their physical conditions in a safe and warm atmosphere for all ages. A member will be able to practice Shorinji Kempo at any WSKO practice location in 33 countries with your Shorinji Kempo rank. Shorinji Kempo Monterey Branch is the official branch of WSKO.
