Germans/Mennonites To Canada
Wall/Janzen Families

My Story:
Hi! My name is Sharry (Wall) Janzen I was born in 1956 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada to Mr. & Mrs. Henry Wall.
I was the 3rd child of what would end up to be 6 of us.
I have 5 children (2 of whom are married already), 3 step-children, 3 step grandchildren and 2 grandchildren.
How This All Started:
My daughter came to me one day needing information about her ancestors for a school project. I really couldn't tell her much other than her Grandparents and Great Grandparents. So the search was on. We made a few phone calls and checked the internet. We managed to find enough at that time for her project. BUT the flame was lit!! I had to find more!!  I started researching my family and then went on to my husband's family.

Results:
We are of German and German Mennonite Heritage. Our ancestors for the most part originated in various areas of Germany. In the latter 1700's they all seemed to have immigrated to South Russia. The "Mennonites" to the
Chortitza Colonies and the others to the Glueckstal Colonies region and Romania area.
In the late 1800's they began to immigrate to Canada and the USA. Some came directly to Canada and others came through the USA. The majority of my husband's and my families are on the Prairies of Canada, though there were those who stayed in the USA.

Main surnames in my family are:
Wall, Braun, Wiebe, Klassen,
Kornelson, Butz, Schneider, Erfle

Main surnames in my husband family are:
Janzen, Penner, Fehr, Unruh,
Adrians, Epp, Gerbrandt, Remple

The Gossen & Unger Surnames from my husband's side are my
stumbling blocks. I cannot seem to go beyond these two women.

If you need or have any information about the above surnames or if you are related and just want to say hello feel free to email me. Be sure to sign my guestbook.

I would like to thank all those that helped me in my research and responded to my numerous emails and postings. They would get me going again when I would run into brick walls.
This site is dedicated to my children (so they will always know and be proud of their heritage) and to my parents (for their special interest in my research)
