CLAIRE STANSFIELD

I first met Claire at the Olympiad Convention at the Britannia Sacha's hotel in Manchester, in July 2000. I had volunteered to help the organisers, and they had placed me to sit near the actors' dressing rooms and prevent unauthorised persons from entering. However, when Claire walked into the hotel, I failed to recognise her (having assumed she was already in the room), and I told her that only authorised persons could pass through!

Far from being offended, she found this quite amusing. When I put my hand up later to ask her a question, she recognised me with a laugh and told the other people about it before asking what my question was. Next day she winked at me as I waited in the line for autographs, and was happy to sign an extra photo for a penpal who could not attend the convention. I had to wait two years to meet Claire again. This time I was able to attend the cocktail party. She recognised me again and thanked me for coming (as if anything would have prevented me!!) I bought three photos, and at the autograph table I started to explain that I didn't necessarily want all three signed, but she turned to her 'minder' and said, This guy can have anything he wants!!
