I guess all my working out and 1000 calorie workouts are catching up to me. Don’t get me wrong, I feel great and have gotten used to the 60+ minutes on the Cybex machine however, I am starving ALL the time. Is it bad I just ate a large broccoli and chicken pizza myself? Opps.
The answer to all these questions is yes, however, it is not limited to just these aspects, and i think a lot of times we tend to forget this. Possibly the most important quality of a superior coach is humility.
Mike is pressing his upper body into the push, but also keeping it square with the turn. Hard to do. I wonder how many Thanksgivings with family Mike has skipped, and will skip during his tenure with the National team, to skate with such precision?
Want to beat him someday? It’s easy: Be amazingly talented, twine years of excellent coaching together with willpower to suffer, and then spend a lifetime sacrificing more than Mike has.
After three stops with numerous medals for the Canadians, the athletes will return home to focus and train for the last two Fall stops of the World Cup circuit, in sprint, the 6 and 7 of December in Changchun, China and the following weekend in Nagano, Japan.
Writing about skating from a tropical island requires some reorientation. Looking back at the first competitions of this season, I think especially about the skaters who did not perform according to hopes and expectations and about the unlucky ones. Such as Jeremy Wotherspoon and Mike Ireland, who experienced serious falls during the first World Cup competitions in Berlin. What’s the hardest part about switching?
To keep low and keep everything straight! Inliners get roll from their skates by moving their shoulders and hips in a different way. On ice you don’t need that because you glide so well, and if you do it, it stops you from getting pressure. On the coaching side of things is for sure cold feet.
…when in fact I’m no different from them; I’m just a kid that loves to skate. I remember being their age doing the same things… getting 4 or 5 signatures each from Hedrick, Downing, Turner, Brandt, Cliff, etc. during the same meet. They were heroes in my eyes… little did i know, they were just kids that loved to skate…
Jim Larson mentioned the need for a new forum that would be administered by inline speed coaches for each other. The only topic would be coaching techniques, drills, successful strategies.
For this reason, GT Speed of Albany (GA) created a forum. We do not plan to associate any commercial activity with this forum, because there are many successful web sites for that. At the moment, we do not plan any advertisements.
