SHALLA CHATS with author Andrea Wilder
Andrea
Wilder writes historical and contemporary romance, with an occasional
diversion into the paranormal. Her latest book, Strong
Enough, published
by Treble
Heart Books comes out this summer. Shalla: So tell us about E-publishing. First of all, what made you decide to go that route? Andrea: I love writing novellas, but the market for them is very limited unless you’re an established author who’s asked to contribute to an anthology. Small presses are much more open to producing novellas from new authors.
The books are marketed and sold through their website (www.trebleheartbooks.com).
Anyone looking at independent presses should investigate each one thoroughly and make sure they’re comfortable with the idea before submitting. These are the major things I considered: * Length
of time in business
Although Treble Heart does what they can, they’re responsible for many authors besides me, so I do a lot of my own promotion. I signed up with Books We Love (www.bookswelove.net), a very reasonably priced author promotion service. They’ve brought me dozens of new contacts I wouldn’t have gotten locally. And whenever I can, I contribute to projects like these to get my name out there. I’m not only selling this book but also creating a reader base for the next one.
I design and maintain it, so I can update it as often as I want. I also do mailings and e-mailings and have reviews posted on several online review sites. Of course, there’s nothing like good old-fashioned word of mouth. I’ve sold many books that way.
