JIMMIE DALE COURT
and Jimmie's Texas Blues

Jimmie Dale Court, grandson of Jimmie Rodgers, had developed his own approach to his famous grandfather's songs up until his untimely death in 1996. He was also an accomplished songwriter in his own write, working in a similar idiom.

For those who don't know Jimmie Rodgers, popularly called "the father of country music," followed a meteoric path from poverty to fame to early death in a few short years. Combining blues, vaudeville, and Tin Pan Alley tunes with old-time mountain music, he brought 'hillbilly' music into the mainstream. His yodel influenced countless other performers, and his tragic early death from tuberculosis made him the prototype for the doomed country superstar.

Jimmie Dale Court had been criticized for playing Rodgers' music with a more bluesy, rock 'n' roll feel, but said he felt this is in keeping with Rodgers' own willingness to experiment with different styles. "I've got to go my own way." And to be fair, his approach was not too dissimilar. However, he was a product of his time, and the rock'n'roll revolution that arrived 50 years ago, marked everyone one thereafter.

This 9 track CD contains some fine interpretations of "My Rough And Ready Ways" and "In The Jailhouse Now" amongst others, and a special mention goes to Jimmie Dale Courts own "The Lights Don't Shine Forever". Unappreciated while he was here, this is your chance to make some small amends.

Decline in music sales is fault of Music Row
From:The Tennessean

Saturday- January 17,2004

The recent news that country music sales have dropped over 10% over the past year should not come as a surprise to anyone. It is almost amusing to read the headlines.

The real surprise is the industry's convenient excuses for the decline. ("Country's slide pulled record sales down in '03,Jan.3)
While the Dixie Chicks situation is used as a convenient excuse, looking at the Billboard sales charts shows that the trio's sales did not decline bye huge percentages in the face of the "scandal."
Shania Twain has been on the airplay charts this year while she was not last year,so it would stand to reason that her album has been selling as well. Nor should the new monster of illegal downloads be given the blame.
The true culprits are the suits on Music Row and the radio conglomerates who continue to shove the same boring drivel down the throats of country music fans. Fans can't keep up with all the new, sound alike, bubble-gum hyped up junk that takes up space on the shelves of Wal-Mart.

With a few notable exceptions such as Josh Turner, Music Row has failed to produce an exciting new voice in the past two or three years.

The cycle of "same old stuff" has finally come around. The country music listening audience is speaking to you, Music Row - look outside your same old boundaries and give them a reason to invest themselves (and their $15.00)in the country music format. Elizabeth Howe-Nashville
