Shadowfane

The sun rises in the morning, clear and bright
Spreading golden light upon the ground.
Though it guilds the far-off hill-tops with it's light,
In the valleys the night's darkness still is found.

The moonlight turns the trees to ghosts of grey
The silvered water spreading out below,
But in the forest night is for the fey,
The deepened places mortals fear to go.

The firelight flickers off familiar faces,
It's crackling a warm and cheering sound;
But beyond it's reach the night-time dark still races
With glowing eyes, and fearful things abound.

Where ever there is light, there is shadow,
The two must go together, hand in hand.
And though you turn your face up to the sunlight,
In the darkness, right behind you, there I stand.
