A brief history:
In the year of 1986, in the poor locality of Orangi Town, Karachi, Pakistan, some peoples come to an educationalist encouraging him struggle to establish a government school in Pushto/Afghani speaking majority area known as Faridabad, Orangi Town No.10, Karachi city of Pakistan. He tried so much but in this country, it was impossible. On the other hand some governing class's hypocrite groups tried to keep Patthans in dark. As they already know the words of Lord Makalay of England, about Patthans. The man who sacrificed his huge lands, was killed. But his mission will never die. Finally, the above said educationalist addressed peoples to send children to his home and not let them waste life in playing in streets. At this moment, the school is running in the building which is provided by him. So, in 1988, he established an NGO and by their platform, the school was established and got registered. This school is open for all without difference of language, religion etc. You may say it "a positive and healthy race of nationalism".
Shaheen School is the best school of locality and our doors are open for all. In 1996, this school was declared as No.1 school. Many other schools were established for earning money but none has provide education for poor or needy, they failed one by one. In the same year, the secondary section was started successfully. All surprised to see the results which the Board of Secondary Education Karachi announced. All of our students were passed in good numbers. And now, it is 2008 and the school is better than past.
Academic Offer
SSS is the name of old school for new generation. It is organized to meet the challenges of 21st century. The institution welcome you to come forward and develop your career and enhance your skills in the educational field of today.
The Administrator Mr. Ashfaq Ahmed is running this institute with an aim to spread the light of education among the students so that the may enjoy this upto their unlimited career. As he always say, "A teacher is the builder of nation."
The school do not have a good and fancy building but the results show the real image of education standard.
Faculty:
The teaching staff of SSS is well qualified, experienced and adroit in teaching techniques and methods. Some of them are those who has been students of this institution in past. So, they are always responsive and co-operative with the students and obey the advises of seniors.
For the student of Secondary School Certificate (SSC), only Science faculty is available. We do not offer Arts or Technical education at the moment.
Computer Lab:
The need of computers is more than 20 but we have 5 computers. But we are struggling to introduce it in the society. In 1996, an illiterate Afghan parent get angered when he saw a computer's monitor in school saying, "You devilish have kept a TV in school and in try to change our culture." He withdrawn his children. Here, peoples are so much religious and some of them do not like our western education. But we produced doctors, engineers, our ex students are doing good jobs, business and earning much for supporting families. Unfortunately, the peoples here, are mostly alliterated and it is not easy to conveyance them. On the other hand, fake educational institutions are increasing day by day in the name of Education.
The education / training of Computer is absolutely free and compulsory for adult students. In future, we will do it for all. Someday, we will teach using American software with Projector....
Strike discipline:
The school is co-education and here, boys and girls study together. As locality is very much conservative. So, we had established a very strike discipline here. In the year of 2006-07, more than 49 students are kicked out when they ignore warnings. They were those, who said to the administrator, "We pay fee and that is what you need." And those words broke his heart and he ordered them all to move out within 5 minutes and never come and keep your fee with you safe. Later, 12 students were re-admitted when they and their parents regret.
But this is our success that highly conservative Patthans peoples trust in SSS to send their daughters for western education.
As it is written on the admission form that the school responsible reserve the right to cancel any admission without question anytime. The one who misbehave with a teacher will be kicked out and will never re-admit.
Curriculum:
SSS provide the best syllabus and specially English language, computer education and scientific education. Homework diary is checked daily and parents are also required to check but 80% of their parents are uneducated.
The books selected are according to the permission of the government of Pakistan. Our poor children can not afford the expensive books of Oxford.
Examinations and Tests:
SSS gives examination two times every year (according to the law of government). But tests are held weekly and monthly. No fee is charged for it. The student who is fail in three tests continuously, is send back to home.
Admission Policy:
Admission are only given in the beginning of academic year. The school administrator look into the applications later.
Every student is required to pass the test before admission and admission is given in the level according to his/her abilities.
We accept the School Leaving Certificates of the school which are registered from the government. Our certificates are accepted all over the world.
Uniform:
The student is required to wear Navy Blue pants and White shirts while girls wear White Shalwar and Qameeze, which is a traditional dress. Scarf is optional. This uniform is available all over the local market. For orphans and needy children, the uniform is provided from the school. Sometime, the shop's owner provide free uniform to our nominated children. Because, we do not get donations.
Free Education for adults:
On 6th February 1999, the school announced "Absolutely Free Education for Adults." Some peoples did not believe and thinking that it will be a deceiving plan and we will keep them in dark and later the hidden charges will be charged. But we educated 28 adults including three Afghan women. And after that, every year, we distribute handbills in peoples titled "A try to return your passed time to you." Even we provide free copies and writing equipment to the comers. It is absolutely free and the school administrator do not care what the fool says.
Future Plans:
There are more than two thousand children who play in streets and do not get education. We welcome them. And we do not demand any fee from them. We do not have resources to buy books and copies for them. We have some rich parents who buy books for poor. These good rich peoples bought books for more than 100 students this year. But there are more than 10 thousand children who do not get education due to poorness, in which 2000 want, but we do not have resources to welcome them here.
We want to provide education to our Afghan children as British children get. But it is impossible here. So, no need to see dreams.
