| George Johnson was born March 14, 1850 near Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of either Daniel, Samuel or Isaac Johnson. When he was about eleven years old he moved to Allegheny County. George also had a sister named, Mary. Catherine Leibold, his wife, was born December 25, 1845, in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, the daughter of John C. Leibold and Elizabeth Schneider. George and Catherine had five chidlren: Albert Hill., born July 1, 1873; George, born May 1870; Daniel , born June 1876; Theodore, born June 1874; and Oscar Johnson. George, Sr., died March 30, 1907, and was buried at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Reserve Twp., Allegheny Co., PA. Albert Johnson worked as an engineer for the R.D. Nuttal Company, on Harrison Ave., Lawrenceville, PA. One of his jobs was working as the foreman for construction of the Panama Canal Gears. On February 11, 1897, he married Anna K. Von der Ahe, the daughter of Christian Friedrich Von der Ahe and Eliza Steitz. At the time of their marriage, Albert was living at 60 Water Alley, Allegheny City, and his wife was living at 10 0' Hara St., Allegheny City. Natives of Hille, Westphalia, Germany, the Von der Ahe family was distantly related to Chris Von der Ahe of St. Louis Browns fame. Eliza Steitz was the daughter of Andrew Steitz and Catherine Wiegand, both natives of Germany. Albert and Anna had three children: Elsie, born February 1893; Robert Christian, born April 24, 1897; and Ruth, born March 1900. Elsie married Tom Crumbacher. Ruth married Gilbert Haugh, and had two children: Gerry and Elsa. Robert Christian Johnson married Sara Elizabeth Barker, and had one daughter, Joan Ruth Johnson. Annie Von der Ahe Johnson enjoyed shopping and the city. She was a dominant woman of sturdy build and spent her days as a housewife. Albert tended to be more passive. He possessed great skill with his hands, enabling him to be a good machinist. His son, Robert, inherited his craftmanship ability. In later life, Robert constructed a variety of wood crafts, including a grandfather clock. Albert Hill Johnson died March 25, 1938, and was buried March 28, 1938, in Uniondale Cemetery. His wife January 3, 1955, at Mt. Washington, PA. |
