About Us

The Maroubra Seals Shotokan Karate Club was founded in 1992 by a group of Karate-Ka who formerly trained at the South Sydney Leagues Club. The location of the Maroubra Seals Sports and Community club was found by Mr. Kevin Chan and we have received a very generous level of support from the club over the years as well as receiving invalubale advice from our patron Mr. Warren Bos.

Training hard.

The club's primary aim is to provide an safe environment so that all students are given the best possible foundation in order to progress in Shotokan Karate. We are exremely proud of the high standards we have achieved over the years. In addition to providing traditional Karate training the Maroubra Seals club has also produced many National Champions and has had an excellent record in competition over the years

The club has close ties with many national and international organisations and members get the opportunity to train with not only the club’s own team of highly qualified instructors, but also some of the foremost karate masters in the world including SKI chief instructor Master Hirokazu Kanazawa.

The clubs original Chief Instructor was Mr. Doug Roussart (5th Dan), who now teaches at the Epping club in NSW. When Sesei Roussart decided to move West Sensei Kevin Chan (5th Dan) and Sensei Zivko Delevski (6th Dan) took over the instruction duties at the club. Sensei Chan has since moved to Hong Kong for work commitments and he was been replaced at the club by Sensei Hovik Keshishian (6th Dan) who this year decided to take up the Instructor's reigns at St. Ives dojo but remains involved as Club Captain.

Sensei's Hovik, Vickie and Zivko.

There are also numerous senior Dan grades at the club such as Sensei's Georgette Dyett (5th Dan) who is a current World Champion as well as numerous other Dan grades who assist Sensei Zivko with instruction at the dojo.
