The Marrowbone Public Library District is located in Bethany, Illinois, approximately 28 miles southeast of Decatur, Illinois.

In addition to providing traditional library services to our patrons, we also allow access to online computers with a signed Internet Users Agreement on file.  During the school year our library holds pre-school Storyhour on Fridays at 10:30AM.  In the summer months pre-school through high school age children can participate in a six week Summer Reading Program, including once-a-week programs, prizes, and a library carnival for those who have achieved their goals.

As part of the Rolling Prairie Library System we honor patron cards from all libraries in this system, including non-resident cards.

We welcome all visitors!

PROJECT NEXT GENERATION

Project Next Generation is finished with their last session.  Check their websites out on the link above to see how much they have learned, and stay posted for next year!
We are proud to be a part of the Secretary of State, Jesse White's program:  Project Next Generation.  Our library has participated in this program since 2000.  Please be sure to see last year's students page link, and the Project Next Generation link above.
Project Next Generation Mission and Purpose:

By offering a safe environment, creating multi-generational talent pools, integrating technology and advancing social values, Illinois libraries are bridging the traditional with the innovative to impact the next generation.

For the next generation, technology will be a necessary tool for communication of ideas as well as a skill vital for tomorrow's jobs.  Today's kids will work in jobs that don't exist today.  Providing them with a 'technology toolkit' to draw upon is of highest priority to ensure future success.  Our Communites, through their local public libraries, are in a unique position to provide for this need.

Using peer monitors and public libraries, Project Next Generation will capitalize on research which documents that peer associations augment social and mental development.  Friendships will devleop through peer monitoring and become keys to learning and social growth.  With mentoring as the glue, technology as the process, and libraries as the resource, Project Next Generation will combine opportunities for skill and personal development.
STORY HOUR
The library provides a Story Hour Program September to May on Fridays at 10:45AM.  It is geared for preschool children from ages 3 to 5 years old.  Programs consist of books, crafts and short movies based on a specific theme for each program.  Parents/Guardians take turns bringing treats.

Story Hour will begin again
September 12, 2008.  See you then!
SAM'S CLUB DONATES FUNDS TO OUR LIBRARY!
Thanks to Sam's Club for donating $1,500 to our library to be used in the purchase of an up-to-date set of encyclopedias.  Sam's Club has helped our library purchase encyclopedias in the past and we are greatful for their help and interest in our community!
