Anzai
is obviously a good coach. He encourages and understands his students which is
also his biggest weapon. Many students respect him (expect Sakuragi who always
play with his chin) and joins Shohoku. (eg: Mitsui, Ryouta) The death of his
student turned him from white hair devil into white hair Buddha.

Akagi
was like Sakuragi in the the past. Good at rebound, poor at shooting. However,
his passion in basketball has made him the crucial support of team Shohoku.
Akagi has potential and is only fully exploited until the joining of the
trouble group(Mitsui; Ryouta; Sakuragi; Rukawa).

Household: Close family. Parents are worried if he
returns late since he is easily bullied.
Fighting skill: Peacemakers never fight. Oppose
VIOLENCE!
Studies: Good (Mr Glasses is of course good in
studies)
Kogure
has a very gentle personality. He is like the basketball team’s mother. (Very
apt of a cancerian) This peacemaker may be only a supporting character in Slam
Dunk, but he understands that the improvements of the mains would be the growth
of Shohoku. Do not underestimate his contributions!
Yasuharu Yasuda

Position:Mostly point guard (6) (reserved)
Fighting skills: poor
Studies: dunno, but definitely better than the
trouble group
Yasuda
is a very steady guard. He is not easily provoked, into remaining calm.(SD23,
match against Toyotama).Often bullied by Sakuragi.
Ryouta Miyagi

Nickname: Flash of lightning; Xiao Liang; Xiao
Tian; (note that Miyagi is often used by Ayako)

Household: Rich (Ryouta is trendy and branded throughout, but we never heard
him holding a job)

Fighting skill: Lose to Akagi. (Wins Mitsui &
can kick Sakuragi) If anyone touches Ayako, he’s DEAD!
Studies: Poor. However, if his teacher is Ayako,
Ryouta says that he can even become the top student. (SD22)
Unlike Yasuda, Ryouta is
easily provoked. He is impetuous. Sakuragi walking beside Ayako is enough to
crash his WHOLE world. Devoted to Ayako and tries to forget her by going out
with others. (Funny method!) Dumped by 10 girls straight in a year. His passion
for Ayako made a lot of us wonder if Ayako is ever touched by him?

Position: Power Forward (10) [Jersey number was
taken from Rukawa. Of course, he tries it by force.]
Household: Single parent family? (Mrs Sakuragi is
very fantastic. Her son does not know the market price for sport shoes
and is always on credit with meals.) (SD6 & SD22)
Favourite brand: Nike
Fighting skills: Before Sakuragi knows Haruko, he
has never meet his match. Since then, from joining the basketball team,
he is always hit by Akagi and kicked by
Mitsui; Ryouta and Rukawa. Also, not forgetting Ayako’s paper fan.
Studies: Poor. Maybe if Haruko is his teacher, he
might not fail so many subjects. (Still fail, but not as many as before.)
Sakuragi
may be new in basketball, but he is one of the good examples of never giving
up. Whenever he commits a mistake, he
tries to atone for it. One of the most memorable incident is in the National
Championship against Sannoh, (SD29) where he accidentally blocks Rukawa, but he
tries to make Eiji fouls. To me, he is not a basic cell like amoeba, it’s just
that he doesn’t think much. I mean, does not worry much.
Kaede Rukawa

Position: small forward (11)
Household: Must be quite rich. Either sleeping or playing basketball
Favourite brand: Mmmm, Nike sweatshirt; Panasonic bicycle; Nike sportshoes.
Mostly Nike
Fighting skills: Quite good, but not as expert as Sakuragi. (If you disturb his
sleep or insult basketball, he would give you a
punch.)
Studies: If you always sleep in class, how would
your results most likely be? Poor. (Maybe if the teacher can teach in his
dreams, he would score better.)
For
a guy with no expression, Rukawa can definitely concentrate the most in the
whole series. Always, performing a one man show, he finally understand his flaw
in the match against Sannoh. (SD29)
Although Rukawa is a man of few words, he seems to talk the most to
Sakuragi.

Fighting skills: I thought he’s suppose to be good
at this, however, he always get beaten up. Sometimes, kick Sakuragi.
Studies: Poor.
Mitsui
is Shohoku’s best 3-points shooter. After feeling worthless in the basketball
team, he quitted in his first year. But, due to his never dying passion for
basketball, Mitsui rejoined the team again. Touched often when he shoots in a
3-point ball, especially in the Kanagawa trials against Shoyo. (remember, the
song: Sekai ga owaru made wa is played) Determined to repay Anzai teacher’s
encouragement in his middle school’s
match, he rejected many famous schools and chose Shohoku.
