Restoration of two Currier & Ives Lithographs

We have documented two interesting print restorations on the following pages. Both prints were in bad shape and we acquired them as candidates for these restoration projects.

Great Fire at Boston - Before Restoration The first restoration used a gas lightening process performed by George Cohenour, and shows the steps involved in lightening and preserving a badly darkened Currier & Ives print "The Great Fire at Boston."

Clipperbark Grapeshot- Before Restoration The second restoration, which is currently planned, will be a complete restoration, and will show the steps involved in restoring paper, retouching images and adding lost color to a severly damaged N. Currier print "The Celebrated Clipper Bark GRAPESHOT."
