On this page, you will find links to all the Unitarian Universalist Association-affiliated congregations I can find where the minister and lay leaders' sermons (talks, oral essays, presentations, whatever they wish to call them) are posted online in a podcast format. There will be two links: The first will point visitors to the congregation's Web site; the second is a link to the podcast itself. Right-click or hold down the mouse button to select the "Copy Link" option, then paste it into iTunes or other podcast-gathering software to subscribe.

New to Unitarian Universalism? Either visit the link above or the document "100 Questions About Unitarian Universalism," produced by the UU Church of Nashua, New Hampshire.

Below the UU podcasts, you will find several podcast feeds from other groups that may be of interest to UUs: Humanist organizations such as Ethical Culture societies and other liberal religious voices. I'm trying to include groups that reflect the Principles and Purposes of Unitarian Universalism -- groups that have a strong respect for right of conscience as a high authority, that follow a democratic process that includes women and LBGT individuals as equal partners, and that allow for a variety of points of view, not an "us or hell" attitude.

Unitarian Universalists: The Uncommon Denomination

A quick note on what podcasts are and aren't, and what qualifies for this list: Podcasts aren't just audio files posted on a Web site. Although those are very useful, podcasts are audio files offered in a subscription-based format; either a church's Web site is set up for syndication of sound files posted there, or the congregation uses a third-party provider to distribute the files. Listeners can subscribe to the sermons by adding a "feed" to a program such as iTunes, iPodder or other audio management software, and it will be automatically downloaded to their computers after a new sermons is added to the hosting site. You can listen to the files on an iPod or other portable audio player if you have one, or on your computer if you don't.

To learn more about the specifics -- including how to start podcasting, if your congregation doesn't do so -- please check out the UU Podcasters page for technical advice and join the UU Podcasting mailing list.

To suggest a podcast for addition to this list, please leave an entry in the guestbook with the organization's URL and, in the comments field, any directions I might need to find the podcast feed from their site. If it qualifies as a podcast, I'll add it. Thanks for visiting!

This is not an exhaustive list of Unitarian Universalist (or Unitarian, or Universalist) congregations posting audio sermons online. Far from it. Several others have audio sermons online but don't have a syndication feed set for podcasting at this time. This only covers those congregations that offer sermons in a true podcast format, which enables listeners to subscribe and have the files come to them, rather than requiring them to visit a congregation or individual minister's Web site from time to time to download the latest files.

Podcasting is a great way for congregations to reach a larger audience for that very reason: They go to the people, busy people who might lose a bookmark or be too pressed for time to check back every week or two. Audio sermons of any sort are a smart move for a congregation because they allow the pastor and lay leaders' words to reach UUs who live too far from a brick-and-mortar congregation to visit, or who might be shut in due to illness, or who may have been hurt in a religious setting and thus be reluctant to walk into a UU congregation without getting some sense of what they'll find there.

To hear other audio sermons that may not be included here yet, please visit the Unitarian Universalist Audio Sermons archive, maintained by Paul Wilczynski.
