F. SCOTT STEPHANSON                      K9

K9 is a 1981 Buick Regal street stock dirt car with a 355 cubic inch Chevrolet engine and 3 speed manual transmision. The car is owned by Elfros Autowreckers and sponsored by Acklands-Grainger of Tisdale.

Scott began driving stock cars in 1989. He did not race between 1993 and 1998. He has raced at several tracks in the last few years including the ones in Preeceville (Sk), Rosetown (Sk), Nipawin (Sk), Tisdale (Sk), Swiftcurrent (Sk) Swan River (Mb) and Dauphin (Mb). Scott won top points at his home track in 1998 and 1999, finishing third in 2000. He regained the top points Championship in 2001. He also won the People's Choice Award in 1998, 2000 and 2001. He was running 3rd after 40 laps in the Boas Invitational in Rosetown in 2000 until a flat tire forced him to retire. He held the fastest time trial time in 2000 in Swan River. Scott also would like to know if anyone in the PRL has raced more than the thirty race days in one season like he ran in 2001?

In the spring of 2000 he took home the Wayne Cawthra Trophy which is awarded to the car with the most points on the first day of the race season in Swan River. K9 was also top points car at this track at the Canada Day Race in 2000. At their 2000 Invitational, which is where other clubs are invited to compete with the home track's cars, Scott placed first overall against drivers from Swan River, Preeceville, Dauphin, Souris and Winnipeg. Scott was also awarded the Most Impressive Driver Trophy. His mechanic also won his race, as did his lady driver hers, which made K9 top points car as well.

In June 2000, Tisdale held their inaugural two day Invitational and Scott was top points driver  in the street class both days. There were cars from Tisdale, Swan River, Rosetown and Preeceville in attendance. At their second Invitational in September, Scott and K9 placed fourth overall. At Preeceville's Invitational in August 2000, Scott and K9 came in second. At the 2001 in Preeceville he came in second.

Scott qualified for the Provincial Championships all years he was eligible. He was disappointed with his showing the first year (1999), but was spectacular at the one held in 2000. K9 was top car at the end of the first day of the two day event and still top car at the beginning of the final race on the second day. Unfortunately, track conditions and close quarters resulted in the car being involved in an accident, with the result that K9 did not finish that race. This gave Scott and K9 a final standing of fourth overall in the province. In 2001 another bad crash saw him out of the racing; he was therefore unable to place well and this gave him a final standing of 22nd overall.

Scott attributes much of his success to the awesome car built and maintained by Elfros Autowreckers and the generous support received
from Acklands-Grainger. He and K9 look forward to an even better year in 2002.
