Willow was born 2 June 2003 in Landstuhl / Germany. When she was 8wks old she started prefering one side over the other making it hard for us to reposition her in the crib. With Willow being my first and only child, I had no idea that this was not normal. At 10wks she was diagnosed with a condition called Torticollis. This is the tightening of the neckmuscle on one side. I was then told to rotate her in the crib every night, and to do some home streching. Early Intervention came by and showed me what to do with Willow. In addition to this therapy we saw a private therapist for another 6months. Willow also developed what is called Plagiocephaly secondary to torticollis. She had literally laid her head flat on the right side. I was shocked. To me it had felt as if this happened over night, which of course it did not. Our pediatrician was on the ball, and gave us a referral to Dr. Blecher in Germany. He evaluated Willow, and casted her the same day for her helmet. She received the helmet about 10days after the casting and wore it for about 11wks. She started out with measurements of 1.2cm, and graduated at 0.1cm asymetry. When we went for follow up about 4months later her head was symetrical. If it hadn't been for the 2 support boards I visited, I think I would have been lost. Found a ton of information and help, both at the plagiocephaly board, and the torticollis board. Willow is now 18 1/2 months old, and running around like a normal toddler should. You would not be able to tell that anything was ever wrong. I am forever thankful that we had the chance to treat her conditions, and that they are now resolved. I will continue to post on Willow's story. This page is dedicated to my daughter which I'm sooo very proud of, and I hope that maybe some of the links here will help other parents find the help, and answers they need. Please refresh my page if the pictures do not load. Sorry for the inconvinience, but this site is still in progress. |
