The U-Lands

AKA: The University of Minnesota Rosemount Research Center / Outreach Station

The U-Lands are an 8,000 acre site, formerly the Gopher Ordinance (Ordnance) Works, built by the Army in the latter part of World War II.

The U of M was given the land in 1947, and performed agricultural as well as aeronautical tests at the site.  It also housed a polio infirmary for a while.

Today, the U-Lands are basically a gothic ruin of interesting structures and underground phenomena.  Great for exploration!  The only research still conducted there is agricultural.
