The World is Not Enough
All times pages must start with a http, not just www
This is the same for Snap's updater. If the page isn't entered correctly, it will give the default times for that person.
Do not modify roster.txt (or any other file) manually
Doing so may cause the updater to hit the end of the file before it should, creating a runtime "Input past end of file" error. All file adjustments can be made using the program itself.
NOTE: When converting a roster or backup file from the old format to the new format, it is highly recommended that you use the Converter program.
If for some reason you need to modify the file manually, remember these important notes:
1. There are no numbers in the new roster. Delete them and the line they are on.
2. The PAL/NTSC lines must be removed.
3. All the active people are to be listed in roster.txt, and all the banned people in banned.txt. There is no -1.
4. The roster and banned files must end in two blank lines, unless there is no one in that file in which case you can delete everything in it.
Point Max
Choose how many points each world record is worth. Lowest is 10 points, highest is 200, default is 100. I would have made the total point max 10 000, but it would have caused record point maxes such as 176.35.
N/A Penalty
This sets the default time given to users with N/A, or not times whatsoever. It can go as low as 5 minutes, or as high as 1 hour. The default is 20 minutes.
Table Align
Choose how you want (almost) everything aligned in the tables. It can be to the left, right, or center of the table cell. The alignment for the world record table must be done in the template files.
Directory
If you want to upload to a directory (folder), tick the Directory box and type the directory name into the box. If you want to upload to a folder inside another, type "folder1/folder2" into the box.
Time Enforcement
This feature can be found by clicking Members, then Enforce Times. It allows you to force a time upon a player, no matter what their page says. It is good for when you want to ban a single time from the player, without banning the player entirely. When you set their time, you can also write N/A in the box.
Invalid Character
This is for users who have an invalid character in their alias (PD) or real name (GE, TWINE). Lynx cannot create a file with an invalid character in the filename, so it will use a number as the filename if this box is ticked. Non-invalid characters are letters of the alphabet, general numbers, underscores, dots, commas and dashes. Anything else is probably an invalid character. It doesn't hurt to tick the box if you are unsure. If you do not mark an invalid name as invalid, you may get a runtime "File not found" error.
NOTE: Do not modify any of the triple asterisks (***) in the HTML code. Those mark the points where the updater inserts the new data. Also, do not put two or more sets of asterisks on the same line.
Make sure your members are listed alphabetically
The members are arranged alphabetically every time you open the Members screen. Once you add a member or modify their data, it is a good idea to close the Members screen and re-open it to re-arrange them all. If they are not arranged here, they will not be arranged when you update.
"banned.txt" was not found!
The banned.txt file contains all the information on your banned members. You can update without it, as those members are ignored, but you cannot edit members and add new ones until that file is created/restored. If you changed the filename, or moved it to another folder, change it back. If the files is gone, create a new one.
"settings.dat" was not found!
The settings.dat file contains everything saved from the Settings screen. If you get this error, click the Settings button to make it automatically create the file with the default settings.
Runtime error - File not found
This could happen if a user has an invalid character in their name and is not marked for it. See the Invalid Characters part of the Features section for more details. I guess this could also happen if you deleted a file you shouldn't have.
Runtime error - End of file
The only way I can see this error occuring is if you manually edited a file. Don't do it.
The updater says it's finished, but the new pages aren't online!
There was most likely an error in uploading your files. Check your FTP server, username, password, and make sure the files you want updated are ticked on the Settings screen. Also make sure the server is online when you try to update. If all these are not the problem, then check the files in the upload folder to see if they are updated.
The pages updated, but some members have all their times listed as 20:00! (could be other value)
There are a few likely causes of this:
a) The member's page might not exist.
b) The page existed, but there were no times on it.
c) The member set out their times horribly, making it unreadable to the updater.
d) The user set all their times to N/A.
e) The user's page was entered without a http in the Member's screen.
If everything still appears correct, you may want to check their page manually. Make sure their times are in a table, in a row, in a cell, not in a HTML tag, and that the first three letters of the first level name (Def, Dam, Cou) are written in the document before the times themselves. Also check that the member used a colon (:) to seperate their minutes from their seconds.
