Laxmi Prasad Devkota (1909-1959) was the most important and the most prolific poet of twentieth century Nepal. In a short life span, he produced more works than any other writer of his time. His work was also considered higher in literary quality and originality. His individual achievement in poetry constituted a movement in the history of Nepali literature. Over forty of his works have been published, many of them posthumously. But an equal number of his manuscripts are suspected to be either lost or plagiarized. Living in painful poverty, Devkota produced literary works like an active volcano constantly spewing lava.[1]
