   INTRODUCTION

Your life is like a journey; you make many stops along the way. Many of the decisions you make now will determine what paths your life will take on your journey. Some of these decisions include planning for a future career. Now it is time for you to begin your journey to see what career path you may take.

   TASK

On this leg of your journey you will find the answers to these questions:

  • What type of career will match my interests and abilities?
  • What will I do in this career?
  • What type of education will prepare me for this career?

   PROCESS

Stops on your journey:
  • The first stop on this journey will be at The Career Interest Game.
    • Take the time to think about your interests and abilities.
    • Choose a career to research.

  • The second stop on the journey will be to research the career you have chosen.
  • Your next stop will be to decide what education and training you will need for your career.
    • What courses will you need to take in high school?
    • Will you need to attend vocational school or college?

  • The last stop on your journey will be to prepare a report that will tell others what you have learned. Your report can be presented as
    • A three-minute oral and poster presentation.
    • A one-page Internet poster with one graphic. Click here to find out more.

   EVALUATION

At the end of your journey, your search will be evaluated by how well your report answered the questions. You may check the rubric to view the grading system that will be used.

   CONCLUSION

This activity was designed as a vehicle to help you plan for an exciting part of your life's journey. The courses you take in high school will determine if you are prepared for a future career. Your guidance counselor will help you plan your courses of study. Good luck as you continue the journey of your life.
