At the red "X" mark is the point where Istrian penninsula meets mainland. There is a valley going from Slovenia towards to the Rijeka Bay, and of course, through the valley, there is thermal daily wind called tramontana, which usualy blows from 5 to 8 am, and reaches up to 5-6 bft. During high pressure weather conditions, you can count on it. During summer months there are cca 20-40 surfers every morning.

DSNM Volosko - The Club hangar (garage) is located in Volosko, near Opatija. The Club is at sea level, there is some parking space as well as space to prepare rigs. Running water is available to wash equipment (and/or yourself) aftterwards, should the club members allow you to use it, which would probably be the case.

The pub is just next door and one can refresh him(her)self after surfing. Newcomers should not forget the custom of arranging an club barbecue upon joining the club.

Weather Conditions: In general, if there is a high pressure over region, the tramontana is pretty reliable. If there is a low pressure coming from west, or the weather will change afternoon, there will be no wind that morning.

A hero can surf here all around year. More reasonable people tend to start sometimes during April and end in November. The fact you have to surf on northerly (cold) wind and during sunrise can make you pretty pesimistic when jumping in water, sometimes still in dark while cold wind is blowing. However, after couple of seconds, at cruising speed, (flat water), all the worries are gone and you can enjoy sunrise at sea.

Current weather at Rijeka, about 5km from Volosko
First of all it, it should be clear weather. If there is stronger N, NE, or ENE wind in Rijeka, there will be no wind at all in Volosko, because this is bura wind which does not reach Volosko. When bura, pack your gear, take a smaller sail (cca 5.5 sq.m) and go to Punat on the island of Krk. Before you go, check their
Webcam, if operational...
