Update: It has been reported that the container and/or zip locks for this box have been compromised, and if you're in the area, please bring some extra--just in case! It might take awhile before I get a chance to do maintenance myself. Thanks!
This is my second 'urban adventure' with a fast-food theme. (The first is Run For the Border located in California.) This hunt will take you to Jack In the Box stores across Washington County leaving puzzled employees pondering your strange behavior.
This is a two part puzzle. Part one requires gathering information about three different Jack In the Box stores, while part two uses that information to reveal where the letterbox is located. And, if you get hungry or thirsy along the way, well, you won't have to go far to fill up. =)
Part 1: Gathering the data
Jack In the Box #1
2145 NW Town Center Dr
Beaverton, OR 97006
| Number of hanging lights | |
| Number of hanging plants | |
| Number of windows * | |
| Maximum Occupancy | |
| Jack's height (in inches) |
Jack In the Box #2
21965 NW Imbrie Dr
Hillsboro, OR 97124
| Number of hanging lights | |
| Number of hanging plants | |
| Number of tables | |
| Number of ceiling tiles ** | |
| Maximum Occupancy |
Jack In the Box #3
1525 SE 21st Ave
Hillsboro, OR 97123
| Number of hanging lights | |
| Number of hanging plants | |
| Number of tables | |
| Number of ceiling tiles ** | |
| Number of windows * |
* Windows are counted like this: Walk into the dining area. Anything made of glass that you can look through to the outside counts as a window. It does not include "behind the counter" windows like the drive-thru or employee service door.
** Ceiling tiles--for lack of a better term--are those spongy things making up the ceiling. Only count the ones in the dining area. And count all ceiling tiles in the dining area, even if it's oddly shaped or not a full size. And remember, you're counting those spongy things, not the areas where it looks like one would fit but they put something else there instead like a vent or light.
Part 2: Where's Jack?
Jack In the Box #1: Starting with Jack's height in inches, subtract the maximum occupancy. Add the number of windows. Subtract the number of hanging lights. Subtract the number of hanging plants. Add 1. This is the street (or court, if you want to be precise) Jack is located on. For instance, if your answer was 15, Jack would be on 15th Ct, somewhere in Hillsboro.
Jack In the Box #2: Add all numbers together. Multiply it by the largest digit in the number of tables at the store. Subtract the number of hanging plants. This is the street address where Jack is hiding at. Continuing with the example from above, if your answer was 2356, then Jack would be hiding out at 2356 15th Ct.
Jack In the Box #3: Starting with the number of ceiling tiles, subtract all of the other numbers. Then subtract the number of hanging plants and hanging lights again. Let's say you calculate 56. When you get to the address you've determined from the first two calcuations, look for a bridge crossing a small creek. Take that many steps beyond the bridge (56 in this case), and look for Jack hiding at the base of a large tree on your right.
Please note: I made up the numbers in the calcuations to use as examples! In case I wasn't obvious enough, you do have to run around to each of the Jack In the Boxes yourself to calculate the real answers. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: When I originally hid this box, I had no financial interest in this company. Later my eyes wandered through the financial pages of this publicly traded company and liking what I saw (for the most part), I bought up 50 shares of this Americana company. So if you buy a shake or hamburger along the way (or the tacos--I love those tacos), I'd like to express my thanks for doing your part in helping my company out! =)
NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
