ROXIE
Intro:
This web page is for a class assignment. It is mostly about me but there will be a part of the page that will be designated to discussing class concepts. I hope you enjoy it.
Bio:
My name (obviously) is Roxie. I am a senior at Louisiana State University. I am majoring in Communication Studies and will graduate in May 2004. After graduation, I plan on driving the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile.

Now I know that seems crazy to most people since I will have a college degree, but let me explain. Since I was 5, I've wanted to drive the big hot dog. Everyone thought I was just being silly, but I really did want to do this. Just recently I was searching on the internet for jobs after I graduate, and I decided to take a look at the Oscar Mayer site just for fun. Come to find out, you have to have a college degree to drive the weinermobile. Well that solved the mystery of what I wanted to do after graduation. My childhood dream is finally about to come true, it was fate. I was meant to do this and now I will get the opportunity to do so.
I owe my father a great deal of gratitude. It is because of him that I pursue my dreams, no matter how silly they may be. My father is my best friend in the whole world. He has always been there for me no matter what. He supports my every decision and respects my ideas. Below you will find some pictures of me and my father. The one of me by myself is a more recent picture. The pictures of me and my dad are from highschool.

This is a picture of my first car, a 1969 Volkswagon Beetle. Starting to
understand the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile thing yet?
Class Concepts:
With this page, I have illustrated an idea that was discussed in an article by Steve Rubio called "I'm Nobody." This article discusses how we try to portray ourselves online. We discussed this idea in class and debated whether or not you can actually represent yourself online. I feel like you can. I feel that I gave a pretty good look into who I really am. The information that I provided you shows my life long dream of what I want to do after I graduate. The pictures that I have posted also show what I look like. I can alter myself physically by changing my hair color and eye color, but my facial features shown will remain the same. Even though this is a small preview of who I am, what I have shown you is important to me and is what I feel defines me as a person.
Another article by Daniel Chandler, "Personal Home Pages and the Construction of Identities on the Web," discuss asynchronuous mass communication. This concept discusses how web pages are not in 'real time' and how this is often compared to face-to-face interaction. I don't believe that a web page is as good as face-to-face interaction, it is communication. You can get a feel for who I am and even contact me to continue communicating with me. This might even lead to talking on the phone or a physical interaction with me. I like to believe that web pages are like the beginning of a physical relationship with someone. You can preview the person and decide if you might be compatible with them and want to create a friendship with them, without being limited by space or time.
My favorite article so far is by Alan Aycock, "Technologies of the Self: Foucault and Internet Discourse." This article helped us to find that, "the self is a fiction, like a social construct," Laura Sells. This means that we see ourselves as something that is created by our social group, consumerism, and many other things in society which dictate where we stand in society. The car that we drive puts us in a certain group of people with a set income. The clothes that we wear show the world our independence, which is created by famous rich designers. So, how can anyone argue what is real and what is not? The internet and this web page may be more real to you than it is to me, but I promise you this page is real to me. It is a part of me, as I had to spend my time creating it and finding a way to express myself on paper rather than face-to-face.
