There's no substitution for a manual when doing work like this, but even with it things can still be tricky. I did a search on www.miata.net and found these helpful tips. Line up all the gears at TDC. The vise grips w/ C-clamps help keep the cams in place. I zip-tied the belt to the cam gears to maintain proper relationship. Tip: there should be 19 belt ribs between the TDC marks on the cam gears. Once everything is lined up, double checked, and tightened, the next step is to set the tensioner pulley. Rotate the crank clockwise 1 and 5/6 turns to line the crank pulley mark with the tension mark (red arrow in photo#3). Loosen the belt tension pulley and then re-tighten. Go back to TDC and triple check that the cams are at TDC.
