1999 Winter Maintenance Clinic - January 29 - 31 In keeping with the ancient writing on the wall which states, "For wherever shall gather two or more Sabmaggots, there shall be wrenching," we present the '99 WMC. This year's topic of wrenchology will be Janine's V45 Sabre: we'll be pulling the Prolink suspension apart, replacing the worn bushings, draining and refilling the rear shock, and replacing the fork springs with Progressives. The event will take place in David Ryder's garage, located in balmy Cleveland, OH. Extra beds, couches, and floor space are available. Friday night's pizza out on the town, while the main wrench-fest will take place Saturday during the day. Saturday night and Sunday morning, we'll be heading over to the nearby IX Center to checkout the Cleveland International Motorcycle Show, happening this same weekend. Contact David for more information about this event.

SMW AMA Racing - March 19 - 21 Enjoy the second round of the 1999 AMA Superbike series in sunny Phoenix, Arizona with fellow SabMaggots. Ye Wilde Ryder has offered up his (in)famous Lakeside Resort(tm) to host this gala event. Couples will be given first dibs on the available bedrooms, while others can "rough it" on the more than ample floorspace. Contact YWR for more information, or visit the race's web page for a copy of the 1999 AMA racing schedule.

Oil Mod Clinic - March 19 - 21 Can't make it to Arizona? Want to hang out with other Sabmaggots trapped in the midwest, do a little wrenching and riding (weather permitting), swap tall tales, eat and drink? Katherine Becker hosts a party in honor of her V65 Sabre's oil mod. The event location will be Ypsilanti, Michigan (Ypsilanti's an ancient Indian word for "Can't afford to live in Ann Arbor"). Technical expertise provided by Erik Kauppi. Extra bedrooms, extra beds, floor space, and garage parking for bikes will be available. Contact Katherine for more information.

SME Spring Fling - April 16 - 18 Come run the twisties and sweepers of southern Ohio! Activities will center around the Leith Run Recreation Area in the Wayne National Forest in southeastern Ohio. Listmembers and guests are cordially invited. For more information, see host Phil Ross' event page. A MapBlast of the campground's location is here.

SMW Spring Fling '99 - April 30 - May 2 C'mon out west to the kickoff for the 1999 ryding season. Join with such legends as Bob Sunley, Pete (not Goat Boy) Salzman, and (if we're lucky) IBM as we take on the unsuspecting roads of the Gold Country. Contact Ron Erhardt for more information, or check out the event's web page.

SME 4.0 - June 18 - 20 Harking back to our roots, come join us at the site of one of the first official SME's, the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground. Located in Cruso, North Carolina, you'll be delighted to note that there's no way to get ANYWHERE from there without riding 30 minutes of the twistiest roads on the planet! The BRMC is uniquely designed for motorcyclists, with primitive camping and a variety of cabins. For advance cabin reservations or directions (you *will* need some), contact the BRMC at 828/235-8350 or visit the campground's webpage. Be there or we'll talk about you around the campfire!

World Superbikes - July 10 - 11 This is the biggest moto-event on the West Coast, and the premier moto-racing event in the U.S, at its most spectacular racetrack. Go here or here for lodgings in the area, or you can camp at the track, but you might miss the goings-on in downtown Monterey Saturday night. It's advisable to call for your reservations ASAFP, definitely before the end of April, as the town will be booked solid. Rooms are expensive in the Monterey area; deal with it. Monterey proper or Pacific Grove are your best bets for being close to Cannery Row. Contact Alexis Sears for more information.

SME 4.1 - July 30 - August 1 Big Stone Gap, Va. or somewhere close. Come ride the *other* Gap. Do the Flag Rock 1-2 and other neato loops. The area offers a variety of local entertainment; go to the races, see the drama "Trail of the Lonesome Pine", check out the Va/Ky Opera (Country and Western), or see the Natural Tunnel that a train runs through. Probable best campground location is at the Flag Rock Recreation area. Information about this area can be obtained by emailing the Blue Ridge Highland's touristry center. Contact Steve Stokes for more information about this event.

SMGWN II - August 6 - 8 After a one year hiatus, the SabMag GreatWhiteNorth returns! The event will be headquartered at Walt's Inn (the smallest camp on lovely Lake Michigamme) which is located near the (very) small town of Champion in Michigan's beautiful, wild Upper Peninsula. SMGWN is a lovely opportunity for the city dwellers amongst us to commune with nature *and* their fellow Sabmaggots. Contact Michael Walt for details.

BC Pacific Northwest Sabmag II - August 14 - 15 The 2nd running of the British Columbia PNW V4s! The riders gather at Jack and Roberta's on Friday the 13th(!) departing early Saturday. This year we're going to try an even earlier start at 5:15 AM, meeting other riders at trolls in West Vancouver at 6:00 AM. A variety of great roads will be experienced throughout the day, with obligatory stops for food thrown in along the way. Afterwards, it's back to Jack & Roberta's in Surrey for a Canadian salute to Mt. Brew. If there is sufficient interest, a 4-hour ride to the top of Mt. Baker for breakfast is planned for Sunday morning. Contact Jack Surrey for more information.

Joey's Housewarming - August 14 - 15 Come to Connecticut and help Joey celebrate 30 years of debt!!! From I-95, take exit 36. If going south, turn left; north, turn right. Follow over Route 1, straight to end. At the end turn right, then take the first left onto Robert Treat Parkway. At the first light turn left, then right onto Argyle. The house is a white Cape, #30. Contact Joey for more information.

New England Summer Maintenance Clinic/Lobsta Fest - August 13 - 15 Located in South Hero, VT at the Sabmag North Resort of John and Elizabeth Bock. Come Friday night if possible. Carb removal, cleaning etc. on Saturday morning, followed by riding Saturday afternoon and Sunday. The Sunday ride will end in a central location for egress from the area. A small "donation" will be requested to cover food, beverages, and porta-potty, the use of which is mandatory for all, due to plumbing goofiness at the 'Resort. Directions upon request. Contact John Bock for more information.

Mini SME-CAM - August 21 - 22 (Harv Hexnut speaking) The plan is for the Charleston Area Maggots to head to the Dragon for a weekend of exploration. For at least three of us still in the Navy, the best dates for this are August 21-22. Since we work til 4:30pm Friday and have a few novice riders among us, I wanna leave early, 0530ish, on Saturday vs. after work and into the night on Friday. I plan to camp at the CRoT. Should be there NLT 1pm on Saturday. We are gonna run the dragon a little and then probably make at least one run of the Cherohala Skyway. Sunday we are gonna be up at the buttcrack of dawn for one last run of the Dragon and then hit the BRP at Balsam gap and follow it back to I-26 and then home. Any interested parties, let me know. Or just show up there.

Marietta DRI - September 3 - 5 Join us in yet another expression of total disregard for the southern Ohio motor vehicle laws, as we meet for a Disorganized Ride-In at the Leith Run Recreation Area, just outside Marietta, OH. Keeping in mind the disorganized motif, there won't be anyone making group reservations at the campground...everyone is on their own for lodgings and food. If the campground's full, there's always the ever-popular Aldeco hotel, located in New Matamoras, about 5 miles east of the campground. Contact Katherine Becker for more information. Regardless of where everyone ends up for lodgings, plan to meet at the campground for the Saturday ride at 9:30am, gassed up and ready to go.

SMPNW Eastern Oregon Fall Ride - September 17 - 19 We'll get together at Jim and Penny Devlin's in Baker City, Oregon (~300 miles east of Portland on I-84) on Friday the 17th, ride ourselves silly on Saturday, and straggle home on Sunday. No official motel or campground has been selected yet, but stay tuned. Baker City is in northeastern Oregon, deep in Oregon Trail country (the roads have been improved since then) with elevations ranging from 3000 to 5000 feet. For more info, contact Don Peter or Jim & Penny Devlin.

SabMag Great Lakes - September 25 - 26 (Erik Kauppi speaking) My stepbrother Mo and his wife Patty own the Kardomah Lodge. It's a nice vacation retreat on Lake Michigan with a large "great room" where we can hang out around the fireplace, drink and tell lies, etc. There are no two-day weekends available at the Lodge until mid November, so let's meet at the Lodge noonish on Saturday. We'll ride a local loop or some fun rides if we want to, or hang out at the beach, or hang out around the fire at the Lodge, Saturday and part of Sunday. It's not like there are great long nuthammer twisty rides in the area, so there should be time for some riding and plenty of relaxing and socializing. Phone: 616/842-2990 for reservations. Rooms are $55 or $49.50 if we get 8 rooms or more. Out-of-towners who want to ride Friday can stay with other 'maggots in Ann Arbor or elsewhere or possibly at the Lodge Friday night. Sunday night lodgings are also available. There are no regular rooms at the lodge Friday, but the "suite" is available for $125. Two double beds, outdoor hot tub, bedroom + living room, etc. It would be good for two couples. I think it would be fun to score the suite for Saturday too so we have access to the hot tub. For more info, contact Erik Kauppi.

Son of SMEGMA - October 1 - 3 This should be just what we need to break the incredible drought we're having here; it's hardly rained in the past three months! Any and all "Maggots in Good Standing"(tm) are welcome to attend. I will provide some flop space in my home, and campers are welcome in the (very large) backyard. I'll probably arrange to have the RV on-site again this year; it can sleep six. Get your reservation in early. Of course, it wouldn't be an o-fish-ul SMEGMA if we didn't have the DYNO, so I'll arrange for Scott to show up with his portable DynoJet 150 and we'll see who's got what. My money's on 2nd Chance again, he's DA MAN! In addition, the lovely Irena and the captivating Shannon will be offering topless bikini bike washes and other services for an additional fee (grin). Keep in mind, though, if you guys piss me off, I'm inviting the bands back (OH NO!!!) For more info, contact Richard.

SME 4.2 - October 8 - 10 Close out the eastern riding season right by joining us for a final attempt to slay The Dragon in 1999. We'll stay at the Cherokee Campground, located just outside Tellico Plains, TN. Due to the campground's location, we'll unfortunately be forced to run the Cherahola Skyway on our way to Deal's Gap. Hurt me. In addition to the campground, there's places nearby that offer cabins for rent. For more info on local accomodations or directions, contact Jack Hunt or contact the campground via email or phone: 423/253-3094.

SME NOE (North of Everywhere) 1.1 - October 8 - 10 Here's a chance to hang out with the inimicable Zimbob on his home turf. Located in Abbot Village, Maine, accomodations include a big garage with heatable loft, plus we'll round up mattresses. Bring your own teddy bear. Local attractions include canoeing, boating, swimming, lobster, beer, amazing foliage, and Zimlinda's cooking. Extra bikes: "Cheap Bitch" will be available, "Momma's Baby" if Linda doesn't ride, "HOGETR" if Zimjeff's working, and "Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time" if you can get the Wing running. Long distance travellers are encouraged to come early and stay late. For more info on local accomodations or directions, contact Zimbob.

SMoT 3.0 - October 15 - 17 (Ted Fulmer speaking) In the words of Dean Wormer "It's time for somebody to put their foot down, and that foot is me". In the spirit of disorganization for which I've become legendary, the exact nature of the event is still to be determined (ride? clinic?) but the location's definitely going to be in NE Texas (Dallas? mom's lake cabin?) We've had some conversation on the SMoT mailing list (a small, low volume list I run for organizing SMoT type activities), about a clinic, but it should be awfully nice weather that weekend, and a ride may be preferred. Perhaps we'll do both. If you want details about the SMoT email list or more info about this event, email me.

SMSOW - October 16 - 17 Come join James, Ye, and TOWMBO for a ride on Saturday up to Prescott via 89 then jump on 89A through Jerome. Depending on the temps at the time, we will either continue on to Flagstaff or cut through the Verde Valley and return to Phoenix via 87. We will be in our new digs by then so will have plenty of room and I believe there will be accommodations available in Prescott Valley as well, but I will leave that to James to confirm. The weather will be great! Come ride with us! For more info, contact Ye.

Third annual Steve Stokes' Barbecue Festival - October 23 - 24 Calling all 'Maggots! Come hang out at Steve and Edie's place in Lexington, NC. and see what REAL southern barbecue's all about! Accomodations include numerous couches, floors, porches, not to mention several beds. For more info, contact Steve. As Steve would say, "Ya'll come."
