![]() ~ Rids First off we need to place credit where credit is due and a big THANK YOU to Brad Banister for bringing the National Lacrosse League to town. Season ticket packages have been set up and are ready to purchase. Call to get your seats reserved today. Feb. 25th ~ All HeartWith a roster including three new Roughnecks they headed into the dreaded ACC to meet the Rock. The result was one of the most entertaining games of the season with the largest lead of the game being a 4-1 Roughie advantage in the first quarter. Playing it tight the Roughnecks held a 2 goal lead with a minute to go in the fourth quarter before the Rock took over the pace of the game. Scoring a couple with Kim Squire earning the trip to overtime. Then in the first overtime session with only ticks on the clock Squire struck again this time with a fancy backhanded shot that just barely beat Matt King to give the Toronto squad a 14-13 win.Feb. 20th ~ Captain, My CaptainThe trading has continued as the team captain was sent to Montreal. Bruce Alexander will don the Express colours for their match against the Ravens this weekend suiting up with a defense that includes Brad MacArthur and Bruce Codd. In return Calgary re-aqquired the two draft picks initially sent to Montreal for Alexander at the beginning of the season. No word on who the next captain would be.Feb. 15th ~ Berthiaume TradedD'Arcy Berthiaume has been sent east and coming from Montreal in return is Scott Forbes. The Roughneck faithful will remember Forbes that fateful opening night, when all the records were set playing Montreal, as the guy Ryan Campbell wanted so badly to introduce to the new Saddledome turf. Hopefully Forbes and friends can get along this weekend in a pair of practices.Feb. 10th ~ Inter-Divisional Game Heats UpIt turned into the sixth loss in a row as the slump continues but the game showed the fight in the Roughnecks hasn't died just yet. An exciting fourth quarter sent the fans home with a buzz albeit less than the buzz a win would've created. Check things out here.Feb. 4th ~ 5 is AliveThe fifth loss in a row is a disheartening feat especially when the details surrounding the game are so sparse. The Gait show turned out a show stopper with 19 points between the twins. Check out the boxscore here.Jan. 26th ~ Skidding Right AlongThe losing trail hit bump in the road number four tonight. Josh Sanderson ran over the Roughnecks with 3 goals and 5 helpers. Calgary had the first lead of the game going up 1-0 on a Jason Wulder goal but after that it was all Albany as they scored 9 in a row. Look for more information posted here once the details are released to the public.Jan. 19th ~ Skid ContinuesThe losing streak mounts up to 3 games with the overtime loss to Buffalo, albeit in the three games they've been outscored by a mere 5 goals. With Johnny Tavares' fifth goal of the night it ended a fantastic game a minute thirty-four into the extra period. A great game that included a tilt between Matt Green and Rob Kirkby that brought the fans to their feet. The loudest the Dome has been in a long time. For a full recap click here.Jan. 14th ~ Toronto Takes FirstDue to website problems the recap is finally up for the Toronto game. Wearing the road reds at home for the first time this season wasn't lucky enough to keep the home winning streak alive. This slipped us back to third in the Northern Division. For more info give it a read here.Dec. 29th ~ 14 to 13 again...Back to back games with the exact same final score. This one however didn't fall into the Roughnecks favour. Kaleb Toth put on a clinic of sorts scoring 6 goals and finishing with 9 points. Derek Malawsky scored with 19 seconds left to lift the K'Hawks to the one goal victory. Early recap found here.Dec. 28th ~ Hello SwamplandsThe Roughnecks improved to 2-2 on the road and more importantly to a 4-3 record overall with an overtime winner from Kaleb Toth. Toth's 4 goals paced the Roughies to a 14-13 win, with the last goal coming a mere 55 seconds into overtime. The game was the first of a big weekend that will bring the Roughies to their midpoint of the schedule. Recap found here.Dec. 21st ~ Roughnecks EvenThe Roughnecks have hit the .500 mark for the first time in franchise history tonight after beating the New Jersey Storm 20-11. Matt King backstopped them with 44 saves while Kyle Goundrey was at the other end scoring 5 times. Goals came from a lot of different sources with Adam Bysouth, Ryan Campbell, and John Olson putting in singles while Chris Panos, Benny Prepchuk, Jesse Phillips, Kaleb Toth and John Kilbride put multiple goals behind the two Storm goalies. Full recap here.Dec. 14th ~ Home Floor Win!!!It took Ottawa a year and a game to win at home. But our Roughnecks needed just two home dates to make that historic win! A solid 20-13 win with the three newcomers fitting into their surroundings quite nicely. Matt King secured the win making 52 saves while Chris Panos and Kaleb Toth led at the other end of the floor with 6 and 5 goals respectively.Dec. 14th ~ Trade on Game DayOne more transaction for the Roughnecks who spent the off season making long distance phone calls sending players all over North America. This time it sees Chris Prat leave the Roughneck red in favour of Raven black. In return the Roughnecks add Kyle Goundrey, Jessie Phillips and John Olson. Jessie Phillips will be looking to join the defense corps although there are reports of a slight knee injury hampering his play this season.Stats for the players coming into the Roughneck fold are:
Dec. 8th ~ Roughies SlipAfter charging out to a 9-8 halftime lead the Roughnecks were outscored 8-1 in the third quarter and finished up losing 20-14. Game leaders were Chris Panos with 4 Roughneck goals and Roy Colsey who scored 6 including the game winner. More details to follow.Dec. 3rd ~ WE WIN!!!Calgary Roughnecks downed the Ottawa Rebel 17-11 yesterday for the first franchise win!!! The Roughnecks rolled to a 6-0 lead in the first and held the lead from there. Solid games from all the big names earned the win and Matt King played great in goal. He should get some votes for the Rookie of the Week award for sure. Calgary started off with a big 6 goal run building up the cushion to coast on for the rest of the game. Jason Wulder had two, Rob Colville, Kaleb Toth, John Kilbride and Adam Bysouth all scored before Chris Konopliff put the Rebel on the board. Once again Matt Disher made a ton of saves. In fact after only two games he's already passed 100 saves. The game winning goal was scored by Benny Prepchuk in the third quarter. Way to go Roughnecks up next is New York.Nov. 29th ~ Welcome to 0 and 2Final score in Montreal's Molson Centre was 23-16 in favour of the Express. Tracey Kelusky led all scorers with 11 points while Jason Wulder led the Roughnecks with 8 points. Ted Dowling managed 6 more goals to bring his season total to 12. In the crease for the Roughies was rookie Matt King who made 34 saves and made some great saves along the way. Next up is the Ottawa Rebel on Sunday afternoon.Nov. 25th ~ Roughies vs. ExpressFinal score was 32-17 in favour of the Express. Game details will be posted as soon as I have time to spend on a computer actually doing them. John Kilbride led the Roughnecks with 4 goals and 7 assists while Tracey Kelusky and Ted Dowling both managed 6 goals apiece in response. The Express seemed to have an answer for everything the Roughnecks did and every time it felt like the tide was turning either Kelusky or Dowling managed to change the prevailing winds. Curtis Palidwor played as well as I've seen him play while earning the victory. He couldn't help but save the ball even on some shots he didn't see coming until they hit that big jersey. The work of Bruce Codd to make sure the ball didn't wander into the attackers sticks helped a lot too.Roughneck Rumours:Rumour has it that the card deal that was in the works has hit a second phase with test photos taken during the Ravens-Roughnecks series in the pre-season. When the Rock hit Vancouver next month another round of the test photos will be done setting up proper pricing for the team sets.
