"Houston Never Let Me Down"
It is with a very heavy heart that I said my last farewell to a great ACD today. Ch Reddenblu’s North of The Law aka “Houston”
We had all just celebrated Houston’s 15th birthday during our Specialty show BBQ here, on the 24th of July. He sure did enjoy all of the attention surrounded by his friends old and new. He was given all kinds of birthday gifts in the form of treats and of course a special doggy birthday cake special ordered just for him and his pals, to share.
Houston was truly a great dog. One who never let me down.  He was so un assuming..always close but never demanding. So very gentle with his sheep yet what a ferocious protector! He loved to work with the sheep, helping me move them  to different areas of graze, right up until the last year that we had them ..he was 13 at the time of our last flock, and still loved  his job  although his arthritic back  was beginning to slow him down.
In his younger years Houston never let me down in the show ring....after a  weekend of shows we nearly always came home home with group placements ....and these were in the early days of ACD showing ...when the breed was hardly shown..I can recall  some of the judges   reading up on the standard before judging, and one asking me if the ACD was put up on the table for examination..
I immediately replied... no, thinking to myself that she couldn’t be serious  ( Houston was 20½in. and 58lbs )...
Although he has now left us his legacy lives on in his grandkids and great grandkids. Today his temperment, type, and movement can readily be recognized in such great dogs as:
BPIS Am/Can/Finn Ch Reddenblu’s the Proclaimer H.T. aka “Uluru”
