Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai

Sorely
The
emergence of genius is an event which in the present state of
human knowledge approaches the inexplicable. Heredity and
environment are certainly an inadequate explanation There is
usually little in the immediate circumstances of his birth and
his upbringing to account for the manner in which an exceptional
man towers above his fellows. In Shah Abdul Latif's case the
enquirer finds small help towards knowing how this outstanding
poet came to the fulfillment of his genius. Shah Abdul Latif's
life in fact would seem to prove the truth of the old adage
"poetanascitur,nonfit".

Poor wounded
ones, so restless grow,
yet grateful are for pain;
For ever forward wish to go
and here would not remain.

All from Beloved’s
side is sweet
whatever He gives to you.
There is no bitter, if you knew
the secret how to taste. |

True lovers never will forget
their love Divine, until one day
Their final breath will pass away
as tearful sigh. |

The One Creator, the all greats;
Lord of the universe-
The living, the original;
Ruler with power innate;
The giver, the sustainer,
the unique , compassionate;
This master praise, to Him alone
thyself in praise prostrate..
The generous, who does create
the universe in pairs. |

If I die, longing for my native land,
Free my body from these chains,
Keep no more this stranger away from her love,
Over my dead body, spread Malir's cool earth,
When I die, send my body to Malir,
my native land |

Those who never forgot the sorrow,
and lesson learnt of woe-
The slate of thought within both hands;
'silence' they study so-
They only read page which does show
Beloved's lovely face. |

Mother, I cannot trust in those
whose eyes with tears do over-flow-
Who bring the water to their eyes,
their sorrow to the world to show;
Who love Beloved, hide their woe,
no tears they show, nor speak about- |
