All are welcome at our monthly meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at Souper Salad at 1631-1635 Douglas Rd (next to the theater) in Lee's Summit at 6:30 pm.  This is a new location starting with the Feb 2004 meeting.  If there are any additional changes they will be noted here.

A volkswalk is an organized walking event designed for people of all ages.  It is not a contest of speed or endurance.  Participants go at their own pace. The walks go through scenic, historic or interesting area over a predetermined route.  Events are usually free or for a small fee you may wish to take part in a program which records a cumulative total of events and distance credit.  The events are open to everyone of all ages.  Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Pace Setters are affiliated with the American Volkssport Association (AVA).  There are more than 550 clubs in the US.  The parent organization is the IVV (International Volkssport Verband) which started in Germany in 1968.   There are clubs in over 25 countries around the world.  All events are sanctioned by the AVA and IVV.  You may purchase record books to keep track of events and distance walked for $5.00 each.  When complete the books may be sent in to the AVA for a patch, pin and certificate.  The first achievement award is earned at either 10 events or 500 kilometers.  Some clubs also have events in swimming, bicycling, skating or skiing.

Scheduled events are usually held on weekends and have a start and finish time.  A minimum of about 2-3 hours will be given to complete the walk.  Most times you may start the walk between 8-12 and must finish by 3 pm.  These events may be found on the AVA event site. Year-round events may be done any day of the year, except some holidays at some locations.  They must be completed during daylight hours or the hours of the starting point.  Some events are seasonal and are only open during certain times of the year.  These events may be found on the AVA year round site. The Pace Setters currently hold 3 scheduled events and 2 year-round events in the Kansas City area.
