Welcome to the World's Greatest Pirate Radio Station

Jolly Roger International made its first broadcast in November of 1989. The idea for the station theme came about after a friend of Captain Blackbeard gave him a copy The Pirate Radio Directory by George Zeller.

Most of the stations listed in the directory used four letter call signs to try and fool the public into thinking they were a commercial station.

The Captain thought it would be funny to turn things around and have a real pirate station operated by pirates that sounded like a commercial station.

While still toying with idea in the summer of 1989, and the Captain still hadn't heard his first pirate station, that was about to change. The Captain took a break from pirate chasing and tuned his receiver to WRNO but as luck would have they were signing off. As soon as WRNO went off the air Radio Clandestine started broadcasting. That’s all the Captain needed to hear. The construction of Jolly Roger International started soon after the end of Radio Clandestine broadcast.
