Peasantry Peasant struggles, land reforms, social change, social movements. 2. Society and Polity Caste, society, polity, governance, electoral politics, Indian Constitution vis-a-v-s hierarchy and equality, tradition and modernity, and rule of law; corruption, criminality, and politics; casteism, communalism, Hindutva, and Minorities; Multiculturalism and democracy vis-a-vis pluralism and diversity. 3. Weaker Sections Backward Classes and the new social order; reservations (affirmative action); backward classes and reservation politics; Ambedkarism as emancipation politics and social movement. 4. Education Indigenous education; British educational and employment policies; educational perspectives old and new; globalisation and education; India's educational efforts and outcome; Science, Technology, and Social Sciences in Higher Education: Democratisation and Access. 5. Research Focus Tamil Nadu and Kerala in South India in particular; and all-India in general. 6. Publications Project reports, books, monographs, articles in books & journals, working papers, reports & short notes in journals, articles in newspapers, magazines, & websites, book reviews in journals, newspapers, & magazines. Main Activities Reading, writing, publishing; helping the needy, research supervision, & consultancy; strengthening democracy & social well being by exposing systemic sloth, & faultlines in governance & polity; & critiquing issues in system maintenance and system change through the Press and other channels such as web sites. |
