| Pregnancy Crisis-- Where to turn?? |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| If you are facing a crisis pregnancy CPC can help. You can talk with someone by phone 1-800-521-5530, online, or in person. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Make an informed decision | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Making an informed decision means gathering all the information possible before deciding what to do or acting on that decision. It means that you are less likely to look back on your decision with regrets. It is the responsible, right thing for you to do for yourself. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What is a CPC? | What can I expect if I go for a pregnancy test? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| C.P.C. stands for Crisis Pregnancy Center however many have different names. They are generally an affiliate of Care Net. These pregnancy centers offer different services which may include-free pregnancy tests, counseling from caring individuals, free ultra-sounds, referrals for medical care, government assistance, temporary shelter and more. CPC's are a pro-life organization who's goal is to reach out to women in crisis situations with the love of Christ. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Each center is a bit different but in general you can expect the receptionist to greet you and ask you to fill out an intake form. The questions are few and pretty general. All information is confidential! The next person you will meet will be your peer counselor. She will show you to a counseling room where the two of you can talk and administer the test in private. The session begins with gathering more information such as when your last period was, what birth control you are using, your age, etc.. Your counselor will discuss with you all options available to you if you are pregnant and can go into as much or as little detail as you need her to. From there the conversation can take a number of forms. If you have questions or concerns about relationships, birth control, sexually transmitted diseases etc..your counselor will share information and try to help answer your questions. The information you recieve can come in a variety of forms. Verbal (the counselor talking to you), written (pamphlets) or visual (videos). Once your questions have been answered and concerns discussed you will administer the pregnancy test yourself. The counselor will direct you in what to do and how to read the test. The tests used are from the health department and are extremely accurate. It takes about 5 minutes for the results and depending on whether the test appears to be positive or negative the counselor will offer services and/or referrals that you may need. If the test is positive and you have no objections the counselor will contact you periodically to offer support, check on your progress or anwer questions. The entire visit takes aproximately 30 minutes. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| But I have heard bad things about CPC's... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The abortion industry stands to gain money from each woman who decides to abort so when women are given the chance to make a truly informed decision and given information that may change their mind they are going to fight back. I will not deny that some of the claims may have been true. I doubt there is one agency as large as CPC who has not had at least one person involved who acted irresponsibly or out of line. Consider the source when recieving information and who stands to gain by passing out the information. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What CPC may be able to do for you | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What CPC will NOT do. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| -refer you to an abortion agency -refer you anywhere for birth control -force or attempt to force you to discuss anything you dont want to -force or attempt to force you to give any information you are not comfortable with -force or attempt to force you to read or watch any material you dont want to -judge your lifestyle, choices or the situation you have found yourself in |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| -give you referrals for medical care, temporary housing and other services -give you information about birth control, STD's, abstinence -discuss concerns and questions you may have about your situation and choices you are facing -offer information about adoption, parenting, abortion -offer free pregnancy testing -offer free ultra-sounds (where available) -many other services |
