Martha Kate Phillips
Martha Kate Land Phillips, 84, of Calhoun City died May 18, 2008, at the Bruce Community Living Center. She was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Kemper County. She worked as a Calhoun County home economist from 1952 until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and had been active in all church activities.
Services were held Wednesday at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Gullett and the Rev. Jimmy Vance officiating. Burial was in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Calhoun City. Survivors include three nephews, Larry Land of Paris, Tenn., Thomas Land of Houston, Texas, and James Land of Denham, La. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Rex Phillips Jr.; her parents, John E. Land and Mabel Sansing Land; and a brother, James E. Land.
